Been reading alot about the potential format of the new World Cup of Hockey and how it would include two "All-Star" teams, either a young stars team or an all-star team of the non Big-Six hockey countries. But it got me to thinking that it would be fun to see the NHL go back to the North America vs. Euro All-Stars format for the ASG like they did in 2000/2001.

I got bored in class and decided to have a little fun with it, decided what a potential All-Euro team would look like, and damn would it be fun.

Tatar-Kopitar-Ovechkin
Landeskog-Malkin-Tarasenko
Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Hossa
Sedin-Sedin-Hornqvist

Extras: Backstrom, Kucherov

Chara-Karlsson
Hedman-Erhoff
Kronwall-Maatta

Extras: Ekman-Larsson

Rask
Lundquvist
Rinne

That's just my team and who I'd love to see play together, not perfect on D but you get the idea. Am I the only one who would love to see this happen?

Would be nice to see this particular team in action, but I bet it wouldn´t be intensive like real international tournaments. Exhibition, nothing more.

Something like that:

Zetterberg - Bäckström - Ovechkin
Landeskog - Malkin - Tarasenko
Sedin - Sedin - Voracek
Komarov - Kopitar - Hörnqvist
Datsyuk
Kovalchuk

Chara - Karlsson
Hedman - OEL
Kronwall - Seidenberg
Josi
Vatanen

Rinne
Rask
Lundqvist

---------
11 Swedish
5 Russian
4 Finnish
1 Czech
1 German
1 Slovakian
1 Slovenian
1 Swiss

Voracek, Malkin, Tarasenko;
Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hörnqvist;
Landeskog, Bäckström, Ovechkin;
Hossa, Kopitar, Gaborik;

Chara, Karlsson;
Hedman, Strålman;
E-Larsson, Vatanen;

Rask, Rinne, Lundqvist.

A line like Sedin, Sedin & Vrbata should be in the discussion, players like Krejci, Forsberg, Vanek, Koivu, Steen, Kronwall, Ehrhoff and Josi too, to name a few.

In case it would happen, I would need to see:

Karlsson - Vatanen Pairing.

1st line: Alexander Ovechkin - Nicklas Backstrom - Jake Voracek
2nd line: Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Patrick Hornqvist/Alexander Steen/Marian Gaborik
3rd line: Vladimir Tarasenko - Pavel Datsyuk - Henrik Zetterberg
4th line: Gabriel Landeskog - Anze Kopitar - Marian Hossa
13th forward: David Krejci

The forward group is pretty good as many other great players are not there. Plekanec, Nielsen and M.Koivu were beaten by Datsyuk and Kopitar for the defensive roles. I believe that any of Hornqvist/Steen/Gaborik could play next to the Sedins, and deserve a spot, you choose. F.Forsberg is a promising player, but he's not as good as the left wingers/centers on the team, not yet. Krejci is my 13th forward, as he's a proven play-off performer and deserves to be in consideration at least.

1st D-pair: Zdeno Chara - Erik Karlsson
2nd D-pair: Victor Hedman - Anton Stralman
3rd D-pair: Roman Josi - Nicklas Kronwall
7th d-man: Jonas Brodin/Alexander Edler/Nicklas Hjalmarsson/Sami Vatanen/Oliver Ekman-Larsson

The defence corp is also pretty good, just not sure who the 7th player would be, any of them could potentially play with Hedman, but I went with Stralman, becuase of chemistry, and because he seems to be playing really good and probably deserves the spot too. That of course isn't too important as Chara, Kalrsson, and Hedman would play a lot of minutes and are big weapons for this team.

Henrik Lundqvist, Tuuka Rask, Pekka Rinne

Obviously a big strength here. Rask and Lundqvist would be the starters.

Damn it, I forgot Malkin :laugh: Now tell me who's out of the line-up. :help:

I never liked this format. Instead I'd like to see going back to the East-West format. That's how the league is split, so that makes the most sense, altough it's not like it is any kind of a meter of which one is better.

Having 2 all star teams completely defeats the purpose of an international competition. Can't the smaller countries have a qualifying tournament for the final 2 spots?

Why don't they just bring in Switzerland and Slovakia , they can hold their own on the ice.

The NHL would have to arrange an agreement with the IIHF und the European Hockey Leagues for that which means less revenue for the NHL.
