An Intricate Piece of Infinity
On the NHL Network stuff, it also depends on whether one is a local or out-of-market fan, as NHL Network broadcasts are often only that way for out-of-market fans. They're usually on the Detroit RSN, but as a Wings fan in Atlanta, I don't have access to the Promoting Gambling Addiction in Detroit Sports Network, so it's NHL Network or bust.
The point is, personally speaking, I don't want to have a subscription to a type of cable service and pay extra for the optional sports package, plus maintain my ESPN+ subscription, in order to watch my team. Furthermore, as someone who is disabled, I can't afford all these extra subscriptions just to get all the hockey I want. While I'm in no way confused by any of it, there are people who legitimately are. There are people who might have got the itch to watch from Four Nations, only to find they can barely watch any because there's a variety of streaming services you need subscriptions to, and all the additional service to sub to prices people like me out of the market.
While I might be considering a VPN and Sportsnet+ for the upcoming season (I do believe in paying for what I find value in), others will simply pirate. With rising costs, more will be doing the same. Access to the cable ESPN channels isn't worth $18 more per month on top of the $12 a month for ESPN+.
