NHL Analyst Chris Chelios Won't Be Renewed By ESPN

His was earlier in the month but now all the other Sports/big names. Steve Young, Randy Moss. People like them most likely go elsewhere.
Like 7000 people though.

i don't care about the big names. It's the lesser people who got laid off ,that's bad.

It's not like they won't call Gretzky to come in for what ever lol.

Some others not "laid off" but not getting new contracts when they expire in the summer like Vince Carter and Rob Ninkovich.

Keyshawn Johnson, they may come up with a package that allows him to go to FS1 fairly soon, otherwise, he may be paid to not work. I think a couple of veteran ESPN people ended up in that situation as they took the full buyout vs a lower amount to continue their career.

Yeah, I am ok with this move. Chelios looked bored during most studio segments by the end of the year, and combined with Messier, it was a downright chore having to watch them in the pregame and intermission. Subban is a bit of a clown with some over the top homerism, but he's somewhat entertaining. Bring in someone that he can go back and forth with and will put him in his place in the same sense that the guys on TNT can reign in Biz or everything about the NBA studio segments and I think it could be good.

Need less guys who are there because of their history as a player and more people who are there because they are knowledgeable and actually good on a mic.

And I don't feel too bad for the likes of Chelios. I'm sure he'll get picked up somewhere, if even for some segments with the local Chicago or Detroit broadcasts. The behind the scenes talents who are being let go, that's rough, hopefully they find a landing somewhere, but its likely a career change is going to be needed when reading where the overall sports broadcasting market is going.

Broadcast quality gets even worse...if thats possible. The other day i was told thier top 3 sportscenter news item were all wnba.
My condolences to people who consume this crap. Time will tell that the nhl made a big mistake selling these pricks the broadcast rites.

7000 layoffs.
The big names? Who cares. Theyve made millions and some might go to local sports or another major side network.

But the lesser jobs? That's a problem.
Not the point I was trying to make, maybe there is more restraint. And agreed.

He was okay

Max Kellerman gone too. Infamously said nobody cares about hockey. 😒

He's either told specifically to say that or he's given leeway to say anything that of course creates controversy. It's all on purpose. It's not his legitimate personal opinion. The guy covered boxing which is probably less popular now

Lol I know it wasn't. Just playing the straight man

A dead monkey would be more entertaining than Cheli. Their intermission broadcast is awful and Chris Chelios is the biggest reason for it followed closely by his cohorts.

I say this as a guy who thinks Chelios would be a fun guy to have 8 beers with. He's not a TV personality.

what does Stephan A make?

$15 million a year
I'm guessing thats more than most of those names combined.

ESPN throwing Money at Shannon Sharpe?

ESPN is a dying brand. Disney (which itself is not doing well) is likely to cut bait entirely. The landscape for sports entertainment has change dramatically and ESPN has done a poor job at adapting to the times. It may just fold entirely in the next 25 years.
