ESPN+ and Penguins Games

Highly interested in the response/s here. I've generally been a center ice subscriber, but with the product put out (league wide, not Pittsburgh specific) I'm far less inclined to shell out money this year. What are the options to be able to watch any/all hockey this year?

The 2021-2022 season will showcase 103 exclusive regular season games across ESPN, ESPN+, Hulu and ABC. In addition, more than 1,000 out-of-market games will be available on ESPN+.

This is all I’ve been able to find. So I’m wondering if it is not on TNT or ESPN if they will stream it.

I think we're good. If one can stomach paying ESPN+ that is... Is this redundant to what you already posted?
  • The out-of-market streaming service NHL.TV will cease to exist, with its functions folded into ESPN+. Starting this fall, all 1,000+ locally broadcast games will be available to ESPN+ subscribers, save local team games (which’ll be blacked out).

So, if I'm not in Pittsburgh, I can watch all the local games right?

I don't have cable and I've always used illegal streams. But I get the Disney Bundle through my phone company for 6 buck which includes ESPN+
I don't have cable either, Google Chromecast + YouTube TV + fiberoptic internet is SO superior I can't count the ways. I do use illegal streams to catch my Dolphins, because I am a masochist, and usually Miami football is irrelevant by the time November rolls around. Tempted to do so for NHL, as I have nothing but complete contempt for ESPN, but I'll probably just cough up the dough this year. Plus, season 3 of Mandalorian is forthcoming, so there's that. But f*** ESPN.

I’m curious what the options will be fire Canada. We can’t get ESPN+ in Canada sadly. Which sucks cause I already have Disney +.

Even if you have your router set for...say...Mexico?

TSN is dumb about that for video so I always hop over to a Canadian VPN server when I need some Bobby Mac streams.

Interested as well. If my past experiences with ESPN are any indications, this will be an expensive and shitty experience.

I run apps through my xbox and the NHL TV app was bomb. Sad to see it go

ESPN+ is actually pretty solid. It's only $5.99 per month and the streaming experience is pretty good.

Thanks for posting this. I didn't know they were doing away with NHL.tv.

NHL.tv was pretty great and with a VPN, I could even get black outed games, including the playoffs. Hopefully that's the case with ESPN+, too.

The UFC moved to ESPN+ a few years ago. From what I've heard, there were some growing pains, but for the most part people seemed to end up being fine with it. $70/year is actually cheaper than NHL.tv was and I get the added benefit of the UFC. Getting the playoff games is all that has me worried.

I hate local blackouts. So dumb. I don’t have cable and have espn+. Looks like I’ll need to keep using streams.

If you have a PlayStation or Xbox PM me and I’ll tell you the setup I used last season to deal with BS blackouts (which should be illegal, but they get away with it anyway).

You know...I'm not going to complain about this one. I'm going to be grumpy about signing up for yet another f***ing streaming service, but I think I was the only human in America who couldn't find a reason to give a damn about Disney+ yet. Either way it's half the price, which means I'll probably actually get my money's worth this time.

I have to admit that I enjoyed how long it's been since Disney got a dime off of me without me actively boycotting them.

If you have kids it’s worth it tbh. Plus Hulu has some good shows.

Dont see how a router set for Mexico helps when its USA only :sarcasm:

I probably could figure out a VPN for the USA, but who knows how well things will work trying to do that, Canadian credit cards and all.

how do the blackouts work in terms of traveling? If I am in Kentucky for work, will it know that and let me watch the Pens games on an ESPN+ account? Or would it just see that my account is Pittsburgh based and block the Pens? Or how did that work with the old NHL app or whatever?
