Karlsson is worth more than $5M. In multiple all encompassing fancy stats he's still one of the top 25 or so defensemen in the league. So his market value is $8M at least. Just because he isn't playing the best hockey of his career and is on a struggling team doesn't mean he's suddenly a 2nd or 3rd pair defenseman.

Idk, I could see it happen if we trade Savard + Armia for picks at the TDL. Karlsson is a RHD which is a need for the Habs. We imo also need someone to take off some offensive responsibility from Hutson, I dont think he can keep his form until the end of season or the playoffs.

Karlsson will definitely be an asset for the 2 remaining seasons of his contract as well. By the end of it Hutson will be hitting his prime (he will hit it very early) and we can acquire a real long-term RHD to replace Karlsson.

You can't claim karlsson on a 5x3 is "multiple 1sts to dump" is a weird angle to take while also trying to suggest Hutson is an incredibly valuable player right now.

Im not saying that the trade is happening, but I wouldnt be surprised to see it either. For Habs its a great deal. Not so much for Penguins as per what they would realistically expect to get in such a trade.

If you're suggesting Karlsson is significantly less than a 5 mill AAV player, then someone else with similar playstyle and results would also be worth significantly less than 5 mill AAV
