Speculation: Erik Karlsson on the move at the deadline?

as a leaf fan it saddens me to see just how terrible Dubas is as a GM. A lot of wasted time and draft picks traded away like candy.

As a Leaf fan, it doesn't sadden me one bit. We were ridiculed when Dubas got the Pittsburgh job, so f*** it.

Kyle isn't fit to manage a Burger King let alone a professional hockey team.

You sure do seem interested seeing as you clicked on an Erik Karlsson trade rumor thread.

It is an interesting subject. Some people see value there. I see his play in his own end as so poor as to be disqualifying for a defenseman. I think you can find defensemen with 60% of Karlsson's offensive acumen who are massively better at defending and with half the cap hit.

It hasn't even been two years and Dubas is already making moves to clean up the mess he made making moves.

Lmao. Who could've predicted Wunderkid was a bad hire?

Tyler Sloan was better than Erik Karlsson is currently from a defensive standpoint.

Karlsson really is the absolute worst defenseman at defense in the entire NHL.
Ok, your opinion, but what does that have to do with Shattenkirk, who couldn't even get an NHL deal and is only a year older?

I truly don't know. I didn't bring up Shattenkirk.

Maybe the Pens can find a team to fleece the way they got fleeced on Karlsson. It only takes 1 dumb GM.

I wouldn't want Karlsson on the Capitals at any cost.

I'll take every current Capitals defenseman over Karlsson at this point.
Chychrun is just a bigger, younger, more injury prone LD version of Karl, any Sens fan can confirm this for you. He'll also never win a single Norris

It doesn’t bother you looking back at how dumb that was to hire a rookie gm who ended up costing the team many years where they had a real shot to win? He built a soft team and everyone in the league knows it.

And yet that soft team is first in their division, while the Penguins have been in the toilet since Kyle took over.

It bothers me (they shouldn't have ever given him the job), but it's nice to see that same GM destroying another team. What is it, 3-4 more years of Kyle? Better Pittsburgh than Toronto.

Lol at the idea that Dubas "destroyed" the Penguins. The passage of time destroyed the Penguins.

Dubas has absolutely made some bad moves as did Hextall, but the only chance this Penguins team had of not being ass was by inventing a time machine to make the core 25 again.

The only significant draft pick he's traded away is the 2024 1st that ended up being 14th overall.

Other than that he's added two 2nds, three 3rds and multiple mid-late round picks. Hardly giving picks away.

Just a bad call on the Karlsson trade, but they may be able to get a 1st back if they retain significant money.

You're stuck with him for a while. There's still time for him to do plenty of damage. Better hope he's not around for the rebuild.

Exactly this. Though to be fair the Caps looked even worse off 2 years ago and look at them now

Perhaps, but the issue is none of those guys are actually available let alone being shopped like Karl (seemingly) is

I think the Caps have been operating fundamentally differently dating back to like 2017 that has allowed them to stay good. The reason the Penguins are in the state they are today outdates Dubas by a ton. Frankly it outdates Hextall as well, Rutherford's decisions in that 2017-2021 window basically guaranteed the Penguins would have no young players today.

The dude traded their 1sts in 2017 (Reaves), 2018 (Brassard), 2020 (Kapanen) and 2021 (Zucker), in addition to their 2nd rounders in 2018 (Addison in the Zucker deal, Hallander in the Kapanen deal) and 2019 (McCann).

Never been a JR fan going back to the astoundingly dumb deal he gave to Semin. And ya, from a Sens perspective the deal for Brass was a blatant overpay at the time imo, even without Gus turning into a starter.

Like 10 years and millions of dollars and injuries later now. Dude's checked out.
Ya, cause like in SJ when Burns was there he has to share the RD spotlight with Letang. Burns goes away, bam, 100 point season and another Norris. The same could happen again, albeit to a lesser degree no doubt

Career high in points

Notable for also being one of the worst defensive seasons in the history of hockey
Points are and have always been his game and no it wasn't, he won the Norris for a reason, much better hockey minds than yours disagree with that. What's your proof for that?
