This is a month old "news", but I didn't see it until now. And given that it's a Swedish source, I guess a lot of people here didn't know it either. And not much is happening on the trade board this time of year anyway ...

Erik Christensen, who played seven seasons in the NHL with the Penguins, Thrashers, Ducks, Rangers and Wild has decided to retire. He's currently spending time with his family home in Edmonton, and is thinking he'll continue working with ice hockey in some shape or form.

Christensen, who turns 34 in december, ended his career winning the Swedish championship with HV71 last spring.

Christensen anyways unexplainedly killed it with the Thrashed back in one of the NHLs I had

Best of luck to him in his new ventures

Absolutely likable player but had to play above his head at NY and he performed admirably in my opinion.

Extremely skilled but never quite put it all together like he had the talent to do. Best of luck to him in retirement.

He had one of the best wrist shots in the NHL for a time...not dissimilar from Semin's really. The main difference is that if Christensen starting winding up right now, he'd get the shot off by noon tomorrow.

I liked him with the Pens and was somewhat sad when he was traded...but when I saw who we got back I was okay with it.

A friend of mine was playing rec with him in Edmonton. Said he was a great guy and didn't want to embarrass anyone, so he never took a shot on goal all season - just set up all the other rec donkeys for tap ins. Lol
