Erie Otters 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

All of the chatter at the rink on Sunday was that you are getting both Schaefer and Torrance back for our series. Sounds like it's still questionable on Schaefer but what's the status of Torrance?

Saginaw will be without 3rd liners Gervais (I think he's out for the season) and Sima (Suspended Gm 1&2). Defensemen Graydon Jones should be returning from an injury at some point during the series but he's been out for a while and would probably be a 3rd pair at best during this series. The big question mark for us is Andrew Oke in goal...he's been out for quite a while now and while Papineau has been doing well, Oke has the playoff and Memorial Cup experience and no one knows his status. He was on the ice after the Flint game for the photos but he hasn't even been the backup for the last 3-4 weeks.
Terrance.

You’re maybe mixing him up with Luke Torrance in Oshawa.

Does anyone have an idea of if Terrance is coming back on Thursday or is he coming back later? An update on if Schaefer will be back on Thursday or later as well would be great as well. Thanks.

So the roster is out on the Otters app. Terrance on, Schaefer off.

As much as Schaefer wants to play, if I had to guess NHL teams may be dictating what he's allowed to do at this point.

The other explanation could be errors. They had a ton at the beginning of the season.

I think we can carry 25 people for playoffs, we only have 22 listed.

I don’t know that any NHL teams would be in a position to dictate anything like that. It’s certainly possible his agent is dictating things, however. Especially if they feel he is the closest to consensus 1st overall. It becomes a, why risk it?

If he’s 100% ready to go, I’m sure he wants to play and I don’t know why he wouldn’t but he’s also missed about 3 months of hockey. It’s tough to come back and it’s playoff games..

Terrance on the ice for morning skate this morning

If there aren’t fans at the Erie Insurance Arena serenading The Golden Boy with a “Min-Us Sev-en” chant on Tuesday night, I will consider that a missed opportunity.

As is Chernyshov. Saginaw will be getting some kids back but they’re not really a traditional “built for playoffs” type team. Moreso playing style than roster construction. It’s not like they’re missing their stars other than Oke and he hasn’t been great this year anyway. I am a bit surprised to see Erie turn it around and turn it on so quick though. I’m not an Erie fan but it’s good to see with all the stuff that’s went on this year and the moment of uncertainty with the franchise after the owner’s passing. There’s still a ways to go in this series though.

Truth is Erie really isn't built to make a run either. This was the year to do it but Erie might have looked at London and thought they were too stacked to spend the assets. I think London will grind through anyone in the west as they were already stacked and then went shopping at the dead line. Regardless, would be nice to see Erie win a series for the first time in 7-8 years, especially during a year of some tough breaks.
