Yea I can understand the ref thinking it’s a foul live, but there’s really no excuse for him to blow the whistle quickly in the VAR era.

It’ll go as a pretty significant mark against him in the grades.

Yes that’s correct. Because the ref blew play dead prior to the goal actually happening, VAR can’t intervene.

It’s one of the big reasons why refs are taught to hold the whistle for an extra second when there’s an immediate chance.
