GWT: EPL - Matchweek 35

Not often do you see two players booked for two separate actions in the same play like that.

Credit to the official because it was the correct call on each but so many times refs will ignore the first one.

We got screwed by the refs for the cherry on top of a miserable season filled with consirpacy and corruption. Nonetheless, Arsenal lost to Bournemouth because of not score in the first half, which they had enough chances to get at least three at minimum.

Yes the PL has had a down year.
Agreed, but at the same time, it had many surprises. Forest, City starting off bad just to go on an epic run, Isak willing Newcastle in the top 4, Villa, Bournemouth, Spurs, ManU, and West Ham.

The leagues which had big-time down years were Ligue 1 and BuLi. The best has probably been La Liga, then EPL, dropping to second, and Serie A in third.

Does the magic # math change given that Newcastle v Chelsea and Forest v Chelsea still have to happen?
Forest/Chelsea playing is what makes it 69 instead of 70.

Forest can individually cap out at 70, however if they cap at 70 it means Chelsea will have dropped 3 points so their cap would be 69

Newcastle/Chelsea doesn’t decrease it further since Newcastle can still get to 69 with a loss.

Yes, but at least for Chelsea, it depends on which matches they win though. If they won both Newcastle and Forest matches, those 6 pts are enough for them even if they lost the 3rd match and Newcastle & Forest won their other two matches and also got 6 pts. Even a draw at Newcastle might be enough coupled with winning against Forest if they end up level on pts, barring Forest turn around the goal difference (currently 9 goals) in Chelsea's favour.

Next Sunday Forest will have the benefit of knowing the result between Chelsea and Newcastle, who meet earlier. Regardless, Forest should aim at pummeling Leicester, their best chance of narrowing that goal difference.

Also interestingly, all three teams play their penultimate matches at different times.

If Chelsea doesn't win at Newcastle, the chances are very high that it comes down to last matchday between Nottingham and Chelsea, where both teams will still have a chance to reach the 5th spot.

Luckily for Chelsea, the Conference league final is only after the final matchday, unlike Europe league final, which is before in midweek.

Watching the highlights, suddenly the timing of Trent's announcement makes sense

If I had just spent an hour being absolutely f***ing cooked by Noni Madueke, I too would want to deflect and shift the narrative immediately

Correct, who Chelsea beats matters. If they defeat Forest, then 1 point in the other 2 games means they would be at worst level with them. If they lose against Forest they can't guarantee finishing above them. Obviously the Forest match being the last match changes the narrative since you know all the other results by then so the question of "can they earn enough points outside this game?" is already decided.

But 69 is the highest 6th place can get if you have "optimal" results to maximize 6th place points.

The best part about Trent leaving is I don’t have to be optimistic about his defending ability any more
