GWT: EPL - Matchweek 35

I thought Jones was very poor tbf.
Today, yeah. That’s where we’re talking about. (Although I didn’t watch today, just riffing on others - I’m on vacation and was spending time with my hosts).

In the fall, you guys beat us in a game we were probably the better side in, off of Curtis having prob the best match of his career.

I wanted all of Barcas forwards to be replaced bar Lamine, last year. Crazy how things turned out.
Oh for sure. I just think there is enough of a sample size on Darwin that shows he ain’t it. Diogo Jota can’t stay healthy. Diaz I’d keep but if there’s a good offer on the table you kind of have to take it. Gakpo I do not rate at all, just way too much of a tweener.

Interesting sliding doors moment this season is if they would not have been too late to have been able to sign Kvara, and sold Darwin to Saudi. (Obviously not sure how realistic that was) LFC with Kvara in has a higher ceiling, but Darwin gave us those incredibly important goals against Brentford before disappearing again. It’s harsh to say Darwin hasn’t played a role, but it’s just so obvious he’s not good enough.

Will watch highlights later, but man what a crucial result. Because of the head-to-heads with Newcastle and Forest we already controlled our own destiny, but this combined with other results gives us more margin for error.

Do me a favour tomorrow, Palace!

Good chance for Guehi to do a successful audition to get a Chelsea transfer for next season.

His audition was the 15 years at Chelsea that should’ve made him a first teamer back in 2021…

Idk if posts got lost in the move, but I was vocally pissed about that sale here - especially when the inferior Chalobah broke into the first team just a few months later.

I think both Tomori and Guehi wanted more playing time that Chelsea could promise them despite some good performances and thus left. I meant more in the sense that Gueri could do a lot tomorrow for securing Chelsea's CL place next season and him being part of that campaign too.

The replacements Chelsea bought weren't any better and cost a lot.

Here’s the thing though. We can win the PL if Jones and Elliott are your 4th and 5th best midfielders. This literally just happened. There is no reason to throw them in the trash. That being said, to win UCL you probably want them to be 5th and 6th best. Either way, we are in for an interesting summer. But yeah we’ve seen why Slot only played like 15 guys all season. He knows where they need to upgrade. Up to the front office to do their job. It’s their turn

I don’t think the PL underachieved. If the 2nd best team gets knocked out by the 1st best team, I think that’s is very harsh to call it underachieving. And you can’t say “spent like crazy” if we are comparing to PSG
I stressed the results outside PSG. You said they overachieved which I agreed to.
Yet you can't admit EPL clubs UNDERachieved while spending like crazy.

Who do you think underachieved?
Maybe City for losing to Madrid? The other teams lost to PSG (the apparent to best in the world this year) one on pens and one by a single goal on aggregate.

United and Spurs have been pretty trash, but it looks likely that’ll be the EL final.

Chelsea the clear favorite for the Conference.

Not really sure what else English team were supposed to do to not underachieve.

City obviously. Barely made it to KO stage, highest spender in the world.
Villa lost to Monaco. Really.
Arsenal hasn't faced anyone good in the KO stage and is losing against the first one (not over yet)
Pool was heavily dominated over the two legs.
United has needed ref help to advance.
Spurs are struggling against lower payrolls.
Chelsea is not steamrolling the CfL with their backups like they should. Losing to Warsaw seems incredible.

Given their money flow, the EPL teams should pretty much beat anyone not named PSG, Bayern, Real and Barca. And be at least close to those.

By this logic, PSG should be considered underachieving for not winning every single game in Ligue 1 every single year.
Except for the Monaco year (where they were insane), I certainly agree PSG has underachieved when Lille and Montpellier became champs.
