GWT: EPL - Matchweek 33

I actually don't mind it as long as people start to change their perception of the trophy. It's like the EFL Trophy. It's nice for the lower level teams to have a chance to win something
I don’t mind that Europa League has that incentive. I just don’t think I’ve ever seen two teams aggressively tank their seasons like this before. Like I’ve seen teams prioritize trophies, but this is bananas. Especially from Utd.

But like winning the Europa league would be a great thing for them. Winning the Europa League would be a long term terrible thing for Spuds because that puts them in the ETH zone with Angie. They need the trophy worse than Utd though.

So yeah. Go Bilbao.

United and Spurs aren't doing poorly in the league because they're prioritized Europe, they're doing poorly because they're been trash (bad buys, bad management, injuries, system adoption, etc.)

This last week is basically the first time United has done anything to focus more on Europe versus just playing the strongest side they could muster for each game.

I mean it’s both. But I guess my point is they do not care how bad they are in the league because there are zero eggs in that basket. And if either wins the Europa league, it will (rightfully or wrongfully) VASTLY change the perception of their season

Great header from Richarlison, and we have a game. Still like him better than Solanke, too bad he can't stay healthy. Tel's a waste of space though

Tel's played 800 minutes, more than enough to see he's left all his talent in Munich. He makes me miss Werner
I mean hardly played with Spurs. He's learning to play on a new team, new system, etc... I'm not saying he looks like a star in the making but he's still a kid and Spurs are not exactly knocking on the door of a PL title.

I don't know. EPL prize money is something like 3M for each place. When one club is firing cafeteria staff to try to help their PSR I would think they can't afford to ignore any competition, regardless of how they do with Europa. 5 places better, which was achieveable even with this roster, effectively would have canceled out the ETH buyout.

Utd isn't firing cafeteria staff to help their PSR. Utd are too big to fail, They are just going to keep doing what they do.

As much as Jussi and Ratcliffe want to whine about PSR, the real reason for the cuts is that’s how Ratcliffe runs his businesses and he thinks that “PSR problems” is an easier pill to swallow for people than “I didn’t want to keep paying for that because I don’t think it’s valuable”

They also have an easy fix to PSR that’s a couple orders of magnitude more effective than cutting a Christmas bonus for the stewards and that’s stopping spending like drunken sailors in the transfer market but we all know that ain’t gonna happen.

Utd firing staff to “help with PSR” is like Mrs. Savant telling me to sell a pair of Nikes because we want a new car
