GDT: ENEMIES OF JERKDOM IN RALEIGH STILL HAVEN'T LEFT

Can someone please run Wilson? Blind side, away from the play, and I'll start the gofundme to cover the fine.

Canes beat the Caps and the refs tonight. Such terrible officiating to start the game. 2 different standards for each team. Jarvy gets a roughing for no impact stinky glove and we eat 6 sucker punches and get a 2and2. There was also a horrendous "intentional offsides" on CAR that I still can't explain. I think it was Staal. Waving off the WSH icing as the puck crosses the CAR goal line.
What's more absurd if I saw the replay right is that is wasn't even the guy using Carrier's chin as a speed bag that got the gate. It was Duhaine coming in second that went off with Carrier.

We'd be smart if a goalie shook loose that could be a future tandem with PK to grab them and just run a 3-headed goalie monster next year...cap space won't be a problem
I don't think much is "shaking loose" this year with the cap space that will be available.

Maybe they can get a reclamation project as a #3 (Georgiev?) but I think reliable goalies aren't shaking loose this off-season with the cap jump.

I see 3 things that are different from the past during this run. First, higher quality goaltending, which covers so much more for the more aggressive D pinches, aggressive PK, and the occasional runs of bad shifts where the opponent is going end to end. Second, I see a lot more willingness to play a physical game from this team. The big boys on Washington are getting hit. A lot. And third, I think this roster represents the most complete buy-in to Rod’s beautiful dream of rolling 4 lines that can relentlessly forecheck and recover pucks. Both NJD and WAS have shown that they can muster excellent 10-minute stretches, but that kind of play doesn’t appear to be sustainable for extended periods against what this roster does continually.

I know he’s not playing much, and he’s not going to hit the potential we hoped we were getting with the offer sheet, but KK has played really well these playoffs and filled his role excellently.

KK genuinely looks like the next Jordan Staal, though, which isn't some tiny role when it comes to our team. We have $30M to find a solution for 2C, so I'm not concerned.

Hell no to Georgiev, I'd rather run Tokarski/Martin. Also, I thought the same thing this year, but then Colorado got a whole new G-tandem fairly cheap with both Blackwood and Wedgewood, and while they haven't been world beaters they were solid enough for them.

You know what's fun?

All that and we still won 5-2 with Washington visibly looking like they knew the series was over in the first period.

everyone has cap space tho. Its gonna be a bloodbath
Yes, but we're not really needing to bring back anyone. We have about $30m in cap space for the sole purposes of improving the team we currently have. If we want, we can outbid any team for any player out there. And we are 1 win away from a 2nd conference finals appearance in 3 years.

If you're looking for a #3 goalie who would play a lot in Chicago, it's tough to determine who is "good enough" to get and still willing to mostly play in Chicago:

Georgiev, Samsonov, Forsberg, Reimer are the likely candidates. Georgiev and Samsonov best fit the "reclamation project" idea if they shake loose.

I don't want to deal Kochetkov; even if he remains streaky he's great value on his current deal.

The vast bulk of teams with huge amounts of space are non-contending teams. That's a major advantage for Carolina when it comes to a player like Marner. Other contenders have a more moderate amount of space.

Cocaine. It was cocaine.

I chose to believe it's a sign he's preparing for the introduction of Nikishin.

Realistically, probably. Ran into Doug Warf before the game and he said he dressed for warmups just to give him a feel of what the playoffs are about, but there was definitely concern Chatty couldn't go. If he can't go Thursday, its very likely Nikishin slots in, so the coaches would probably need to load up that top line to take heavy minutes. Walker looked very good paired with Slavin last night.

I don't disagree with the fit aspect, but if Bennett is getting offers in the $9M per year, do you think/want the Canes to match that? I don't. I think I'd rather have Marner at $14 than over pay some of the mid-tier guys like they are going to get overpaid this year.

Yes, and I wouldn't think twice about it. Rising cap means $9m isn't what $9m used to be, and he's the exact kind of player we could use on our team going forward. A shithead who can legitimately play great hockey? Sign me up.

Georgiev is kind of a shithead, no? Also he sucks.

A shithead who sucks at hockey on the other hand, nope!

I’m beginning to think one of the main pieces they’ll be after this summer will be top 4 RD. As much potential as Morrow has, he very likely isn’t ready for top 4 mins next season. Seems like Anderson out of Calgary would be a perfect fit next to Slavin. Maybe Morrow + a forward prospect/picks gets that done.

I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance they end up with Marner, but I’d love to be wrong there. I do think they end up with another top 6 winger, be it Ehlers or Boeser and a short-term 2C band-aid, maybe a Nelson, Granlund or Duchene. They should have ample cap
space for all that, be able to bank a sizeable amount for a deadline acquisition or 2 and still be flexible enough to pay their RFAs.
