GDT: ENEMIES OF JERKDOM IN RALEIGH STILL HAVEN'T LEFT

Tix are soo $$$$$ with all the WSH fans running up the StubHub pricing.

The trick with resells is to wait until the last minute to buy the ticket. Ticket purchasing is not a particularly rational market on both the supply and demand side, and a lot of times, sellers are stupid and ask for too much, meaning that they're forced to dump at the end.

Completely unrelated to the game, but as I was driving around today, I saw a truck that had snow on its back windows. And I was baffled, because obviously, that’s very unlikely. Even if they were taking a trip from way up north, I’d have to imagine the snow would have melted by the time they got down here. Maybe they came from Western NC? But even that seems like a stretch.

Someone explain this phenomenon to me.

I thought I heard Beech Mountain got some snow over the weekend? Even then that's quite a stretch because you'd have to assume it melted by the time the driver got to Winston-Salem.

Not snow, but coming from Miami?

Cocaine. It was cocaine.

One interesting thing in the 3rd period was that Brind'Amour played Slavin-Walker as a pairing as a sort of minutes-management strategy with Burns. Is that potentially a bit of a preview/practice reps for next season?
I chose to believe it's a sign he's preparing for the introduction of Nikishin.

Caps are good team. There is no need to bash or mock "how they did win Division?" - talk.

However it is also system based. Canes system is very taxing and hard. You need 100% effort each and every night from players it to work. During 82 season this is impossible. So Canes system have during regular season a clear flaw. Canes will lose to bad opponents due their taxing and hard system. When a more free flowing and relaxed systems give better chance to win bad teams during regular season.

However in the playoffs where all teams are at least moderately good, Canes system show it strength, many teams need to alter their playstyle, but Canes just continue to play same style as they did during regular season.

I personally think that Canes have best system in NHL. They have top tier team (top 5), but they are not 2006-2007 Ducks which was by far best team since 80's Oilers. That season was just free cup. (Prime Pronger and Niedermeiyer in same team was cheating level).

Canes have few fears. Their special teams must hold. Andersen must stay healthy and their Burns & Walker can't be this bad for long.

This year's team is really good.

Now imagine this team plus $30m worth of extra talent.

Just keep learning how to win tough games, boys. It'll pay off, soon. Maybe not this year, but soon.

It’s funny because I’ve been mentally earmarking $5m+ and maybe even some trade assets for the goalie to come alongside PK, and now that Andersen signed a one-year deal at a discount compared to this year, that $30m really is there for only like 2-3 roster spots.

I got a feeling that the $30M is not really going to be the $30M we think it is. Between keeping some powder dry for important RFAs in the next two years and the "rising tide raises all boats" idea, and watching what other dumb GMs have done when they have piles of cash (spoiler alert: almost all teams have a lot more next year), we are going to see guys that we think "should" have $5M contracts get $9M, etc.

I doubt we add substantial talent to the roster this next year. Marner could be the outlier here (if he actually moves) as he might be worth the contract he gets, but few others will be.

I’d almost rather target Bennett than Marner I think Bennett is a better fit for the canes system. Marner hasn’t looked great against Florida but maybe getting him out of the Toronto noise and into Carolina would change things.

We'd be smart if a goalie shook loose that could be a future tandem with PK to grab them and just run a 3-headed goalie monster next year...cap space won't be a problem

I never wanted Nikishin to get his first game because of an injury. Never ever want one of our guys hurt…. But can’t see how we can let chatty go again in game 5. Let him rest whatever the injury is and hopefully he is back very soon..
He does get an extra day off for some additional rest. But yeah I'm not sure Chatty at 85% is better than new guy Nikishin.

I don't disagree with the fit aspect, but if Bennett is getting offers in the $9M per year, do you think/want the Canes to match that? I don't. I think I'd rather have Marner at $14 than over pay some of the mid-tier guys like they are going to get overpaid this year.
