Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

I'm completely shocked you guys don't want Matthews anymore. That guy is a f***ing beast. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. I would absolutely never trade him if I was Toronto. Yzerman had so many playoff failures before he started winning cups...
You can have him. The difference, Yzerman tried each and every game and got mad when they lost. Matthews is like, "Oh well, who has the keys to the boat."

The Wings use to choke every year until we finally won in 97. Washington always choked and they broke through once. If you guys completely tear it down you will wish you didn't. Wings were winning president cups and losing in the first round in the 90's. Choking to new jersey. Then we finally won. I see it from a different angle. So many studs on this roster you have to get lucky too....
Difference is while those teams lost, the players on those teams gave it there all in the playoffs. These guys don't have it that compete

Gotta say, I'm not that upset over this one. I don't know if it's apathy or because I had low expectations but it really wasn't a gut-wrenching loss for me. They lost this series in Game 3 BTW, blowing a 2 goal lead twice. They would have had 4 chances to close it out. What a shame.

I don't even see the need to blow up the roster TBH. I would be OK with Marner walking (and not because I don't like him, only because there's only so much money you can invest in 3 or 4 players up front) and we may not have a choice anyway (he seems intent on trying out free agency). Basically, ./meh.

Nothing changes without change, everythings been changed but the core, let 16 and 91 walk, get rid of 34,88, 44, I don’t care what the return is. Build a blue collar team that embraces hard work and a hate for losing. That’s the kind of team I want……..

I’m not against it. Before blowing it up, somebody (from the outside) should take a look at the organization and see what the source(s) of this dysfunction is.

I don’t trust MLSE not to make the same mistakes they did with this iteration.
We know the cause, a first time President decided to let a first time GM build a skill only team and created a culture of entitlement for the players led by a first time coach who didn’t hold players accountable because of aforementioned entitlement………

Like I said before: MLSE suits hire first time president who hires a first time GM who hires a first time head coach who are all put in charge of a gifted group of just-drafted young men. This special young nucleus needed to be raised by experienced "grandparents", not first time "I don't know what I'm doing yet" inexperienced parents. You mature folks know exactly what I mean: in f****** up your own kids you learn how to raise grandkids successfully.

MLSE will never do it right. Ever.

Kids are like making pancakes. The first one gets screwed up but the rest turn out okay.

You’re right though, they tried to be progressive-looking and leaned way too heavily on being player friendly and it looks like accountability was a casualty of it.

I don't think the 2 of them are linked in anyway.

You can be an organization that is world class in the way that it handles players, and provides for players - not just in monetary value, but in the sorts of support, services, and amenities you can offer them.

You can also be an organization that holds yourself, and your players, completely accountable.

The two are mutually exclusive to one another. So many organizations around the league have proven that to be the case.

i am telling you.
Go ask that question to the Yankees.
Go ask that question to the Patriots.
Go to England and pick a Football club and ask them that.

Everyone would look at you and go wtf are you smoking.
Its because they get protected
Then when they talk to the media they ass f*** their teamates
They dont know how to face pressure
Last i look the fans pay their salaries

Oh they do it right. But for all the wrong reasons.
MLSE is the worst thing to happen to leafs and hockey. This leaf team could easily sell out and make money without corporate whores putting their stamp on things.

it’s so frustrating seeing McDrai take their games to another level (or at least maintain their regular season level), and our “stars” f***ing coast.

I'm not sure ours coast, as much as they just aren't any good at it. They just don't have that next level.

Also, McDrai have yet to win anything of significance either... I mean, they've been more successful than us, but still haven't won a cup. It wouldn't shock me, if they won this year though.

Maybe it was because this was an expected result? You were prepared.

oh man trying hard and getting mad all the way to his point totals falling off cliffs every year till the Russian and Shanahan showed up. He sure showed them!

They haven't won a Cup, but they've f***ing lit it up in the playoffs. They at least do what your star players are paid to do.

Imagine having McDrai on the Leafs instead of ______________ and ___________________. (insert any two players)

I think if our guys elevated their games, like McDrai, there would be less call for changes, even if we hadn't won a cup... I'd agree there.

We are 3 more years of Matthews away from starting another rebuild.

A wasted era of Maple Leafs hockey, is going to be followed by another period of prolonged pain and irrelevance.
Moving 34 and 88, and 44 for fair market value, make a couple of impactful UFA signings, let 16 and 91 walk we’d be as competitive as we are now AND have a chance of playoff success

By now I’m convinced we’ve seen the ceiling of their playoff trajectory……..
I wonder how much of the willingness to hang on to what hasn’t been working is just fear that they’ll be successful somewhere else? Clinging to playoff mediocrity for that reason
