Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

He really took the shine off himself with his performances in game 5 and 7. The 4th goal last night cannot go under any circumstances. He’s still young but boy I definitely don’t look at him as the future #1 anymore. Before this year I had high hopes but he has more to prove now. He’s gotta show everyone consistency

Stolarz is not the answer either. People really think Stolarz would have played the whole playoff run? If it wasn't the concussion, it would probably be something else. Stolarz and Woll together are fine. I am sick of people blaming Woll.

Unpopular opinion:

Babs.... was a good coach. Asshol$...but he absolutely despises losing and was known for being incredibly prepared. He probably was the right coach for these pansies, but the pansies prevailed. Uncle Marleau had nothing bad to say about Babs. Kadri credited him with changing his career etc.

I like Berube but I dont think hes the greatest coach myself. Reminds me of Carlyle.

Or Babcock is super overrated and has been given amazing teams and still only won once.

You know there's a salary cap, right? Can't compare today's era to Yzerman's era of Cups when there was no salary cap.
I think Tavares is gone for sure. I'm just saying dynamic goal scorers and play makers don't grow on trees. Detroit as an example hasn't had a 40 goal scorer since 2009! The grass isn't always greener with new players... giving up a first for Laughton was a bad move imo

I'm not trying to come across like that. I admire the players on this team. Especially the high end ones...just didn't work out. If I shitted on them it would be better?
If you weren't trying to be obnoxious you would at most just say your piece and leave. But to sit here arguing with fans of another team in their own forum after they've just suffered another crushing loss is extremely irritating. And you know it and continue to do it anyways.

Woll deserves blame just like everyone else. The team didn’t show up in front of him but he didn’t help matters either. Even the 5th goal last night…. Nobody screened him, it was off a faceoff and he wasn’t ready. It’s bush league stuff

How many hits has Bennett taken since taking out our goalie?
I honestly hardly ever even noticed Bennett on the ice after the first game. I know he scored a couple...but I am extremely wary of over reacting to this travesty and signing him to some stupid 7yr deal. Especially since Derren Ferris is his agent.

Yea, no doubt but to say that the team plays differently in front of Woll is an indictment of the rest of the team not Woll. Woll deserves blame, but he wasn't THE reason.

did he? I was and am a huge Sundin fan but his career playoff PPG leaves things to be desired. hell he was injured and the leafs rallied and then he came back and all of a sudden they stood around picking their asses and looking to him to do it all again

The team not doing well when he came back isn’t his fault. It was a tough situation against a Hurricanes team that was stifling and Irbe playing out of his mind. Plus every core Leaf playing through injury or coming back from injury. He also didn’t have anywhere near the supposed talent around him as this core has had at any point in his Leaf tenure. His ‘99 run and his play in ‘01 has been better than anything Matthews or Marner have done in the postseason. Only Nylander, another Swede of course, has come close.

All of this of course pales in comparison to what Gilmour and Clark were doing in ‘93 and ‘94. Those were guys that embraced the spotlight and played their hearts out. We can only dream of having players that want to be here and show up when the games matter most.

And I get it, at the end of the day these guys all failed to bring Stanley home. But at least the aforementioned guys went at least semi-deep in the playoffs. And they didn’t hit us with constant historic losses.

Like I mentioned in one of the older threads, we have no choices but to overly glorify those teams because this is the only thing we have as Leafs fans.

the pick setting is a type of layering designed into the system...the leafs did it a ton under Babcock it has nothing to do with the players' willingness... lol tell me were they willing to set the picks in game 6 all of a sudden when they eliminated the panthers rim around play using the F2 to cut off the second panther in or was that an adjustment that Berube made? Paul Maurice changed up the gamer florida again in game 7 because the leafs had effectively made the panthers aggressiveness on hard rim arounds vanish in Game 6. it has nothing to do with willingness but I will say to run the type ofdump and chase hockeyBerube wants to play on offence we do not have the personnel on the wing or on D and that needs to be addressed otherwise the leafs will continue to be one and done every time they enter the offensive zone.
Nothing really changed in that regard when it came to setting picks or not. Woll helped a bit but also put the d in bad spots with bad passes. The main thing in game 6 was that we completely shut down the slot and probably played 1 of their best defensive games ever from top to bottom. Game 7 Florida just went all out and put everything at the net and won every puck battle since Woll did kick out a lot of rebounds. Floridas forwards weren't even the ones setting the picks half the time in game 7, it was the other d man. Only adjustment Florida had to make was to eliminate the rush chances against ad that's what they did.

Pretty easy to when he put up a 3+ GAA and an 867 sv%

Yea, sure it's on the goalie who is making league minimum this season. Yea, he is not devoid of blame but he wasn't the biggest problem. Stolarz is going to get hurt, that's 100% guaranteed. Either you keep rolling with Stolarz/Woll, or you get a legit #1 somehow and one of them is the clear backup.

Woll was always the clear back-up in my eyes. What bothers me most is the team got bullied out of another series.

But Stolarz is not a clear #1. They are 1a 1b. Stolarz wouldn't last a whole playoff run. Some pebble in his knee would have popped up again and he'd be done. Woll started 41 games, and Stolarz started 33. Clear backup my ass.

well...you just got a good look as to why I thought that :)

We win that series with Stolly not giving up 5 goals twice

Bennett is the type of players we need. But just Bennett isn’t enough.
We need guys who is not afraid of the pressure of Game 7.
Guys that played in Florida just looked at last night game as just another Round 2 game while our guys look at it as Cup Finals.
We really need guys who knew what it takes to win and how to win.

I'm serious. Not even trying to troll. The score was horrible but you guys are getting closer. Almost beat the defending champs. Every player you guys are trying to dump every other team would love to have. Why is that? I'm a Wings fan we would love to have any of Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Tavares Knies, Reilly etc. You guys need a few pieces not a complete blow up...
Wings are a "second favourite" team of mine. I know the club as well as Toronto.

Detroit would weep after the first Marner playoffs experience and if I was given the opportunity to trade Matthews to Detroit I would take it. Not because Larkin entices me, but at half of what Matthews makes, the depth on Toronto increases.

I know many in Hockeytown have lost faith in the "Yzerplan", but let me assure you, it's not the "Shanaplan" and because Yzerman has taken the long view approach, Detroit has little in the way of anchors, and a cap structure that will give the Wings a chance at contention with depth.

Marner and Matthews will destroy that the instant they arrive. And trust me, they're not Maple Leafs in the mold of the 90s and 00s, which makes them lightyears apart from Detroit's standard of contender.

Agreed on Nylander but you can't have him, lol.

When your support base puts in wage-earning hours measured in weeks into experiencing players who earn the same sum in minutes without a worry, eventually...What's the line from The Dark Knight again?

Has anyone seen Donnie Brasco here? The guy that admittedly mocks Junior hockey players from the stands. The guy that mocks all the fans here.

That Donnie.
