Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

If Shanna signed as a player, it would mean he would have to live in Toronto for a lot of the year. Being president for the leafs he actually spends most of his living in new York….
Ya I know that. I wonder how many other Presidents of teams live in another province, state or country.

What?

We know he tried trading him for the best Dman they could get, and didnt like the offers they were getting.
Maybe. Is it unreasonable to believe that a potential trade might have been floated in order to convince Nylander that the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side? It just feels a bit like a 180 in having him go from trade candidate to a deal of maximum term. I'm wondering if Treliving had no desire to trade Nylander but would have done so only when the alternative scenario available was losing him for nothing as a UFA?

The amount of sympathetic comments from the Panthers players and coach are the absolute worst lol.
Probably tastes as bad as the crow team “they’re winning this, it’s different this year” have to eat……..again………

This is an insane stat especially considering how many bad games teams like Chicago, San Jose and the Predators had this season:

"Through 40 minutes, the Maple Leafs had allowed their opponent to amass more shot attempts (75) than any team had through two periods in any game this season — regular season or playoffs."

Pathetic. No determination what-so-ever with this team. i really don't think the core players want it enough. gotta dismantle the core

McCabe had a tough series. Either injured or out of gas. He was not effective and Tanev was on his own out there.
The down side of a veteran loaded D is definitely the gas tank factor, I could see OEL running on fumes well before the playoffs, having said that they exceeded my expectations. I knew Riley would shit the bed once again……..

Remember when we were told by Shanny after the 'Salute Gate' debacle, that he would make this franchise respectable again? Did he ever set a timeline for that? We're still waiting Shanny.

There is no doubt they are talented individuals when the want to be. The problem is they don’t alway want to give the sacrifices needed to overcome hard games. Plus the fact that they are delusional enough to convince themselves they are giving it all the have got.
Until they can look in the mirror and honestly asses their flaws they will never change and I don’t ever see them doing that
Hockey’s a tough, dirty, physical sport. When your best players can’t handle that or return the fire it’s impossible to win. Shanny should know better.

Tanev and the guys you said did put in the work last night.

biggest trash were the new muskoka habitants in rielly, marner, matthews, tavares and nylander

the core is rotten and it MUST be undone.

Matthews and Nylander stay the other 3 in rielly, marner and tavares can f-off. unless tavares is willing to sign a league minimum to play 3C minutes he can get his bag elsewhere; he is too slow to keep up with the pace of the game
Trade all of them, they’re be takers and they’ll waive their NMC’s imo……..

Going to stand resolute here.

Shanahan improved our club and our culture.

Our club is incrementally better now than last year.

But for whomever takes over, let's not pretend like our entire ecosystem is just a bigger version of the Dallas Stars' ecosystem.

Our team, our fanbase and the perception of those by other players is something that has to change and a culture of serious focus has to be the new norm.

I'm not about to tar and feather the man. I see the good he's done with jack-in-the-box talent that no one short of a sociopath could see. And at that point, you protect your young, fledgling stars. But man oh man was Babcock right.
Your take couldn’t be further from the truth, in fact it’s part of the problem with the team, the accepting of mediocrity makes it that much easier for the players to not be accountable…….

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. He just threw his teammates and the coaching staff under the bus. The story sounds hard to believe but I don’t think management has a clue how to handle these primadonas. It wasn’t working with JT so why not try Matthews who clearly wasn’t up to the job. Clueless.
I think they gave AM the captaincy because they hoped it would light a fire under him. They knew his Give-O-Shit meter was pretty low but thought it might change if he was the captain. He showed in the 4 nations cup that he just can't rise to the occasion. We just have to accept that fact and possibly move on.

See this is exactly why I feel awful for you guys. It sucks when a fan has to make a choice like THAT, damn.

Have you considered following a second, western team? They don't play against Toronto a ton anyways.

Rumblings in the islander community he may be Lou's replacement.

I swear these story lines write themselves xD

Islanders have some kind of fetish for Toronto cast offs.
They have the 1st overall and maybe they sign Marner as well.

Shanahan improved our club and our culture.

and i'm going to stop you here.
because you didn't add: and after five years when everyone and their mother say there were issues and they could have made changes without handicapping themselves he refused to do it.

For someone who had a five year plan that changed every day. to NOT make changes before Marner's NMC kicked in and simply deal with trading Nylander is just wrong. Shanahan's stubborness to adapt and change is the exact same thing when EVERYONE knew the cap was coming and almost every other team made sure they were ready except the Leafs.

He got hoisted by his own petard.

Trade all of them, they’re be takers and they’ll waive their NMC’s imo……..

Imagine Leafs pulling of a Lindros like trade ;)

There was nothing wrong with Kadri and his $4.5M hit.

Why we couldn't just stand pat and continue building haunts me to no end.

And on that note, wouldn't that be terribly ironic if Tavares came back...at $4.5M per?

Too Leafy not to happen methinks.
JT’s money should have went to fix the D, and G………

Jesus, please stop with the excuses, as a fanbase we should be better that this…….
I will not, the evidence is piling up.

However, I'm not excusing the Leafs effort last night, just the overall disproportionate advantage over the last 20 years.

I agree, the fans deserve to be upset, but there's no excuse for booing and throwing jereys on the ice. The Leafs were one win from the conference finals and had a good chance to win, Florida was their biggest hurdle from going to the finals. I think that the finals will be Florida vs Dallas, but I hope that it's Carolina vs Edmonton.
Once again……..cause and effect………

So is it the players, or the system berube deployed. Laughton was a depth scoring piece for philly, but then comes here and can't score?
It's probably a bit of both. I honestly hated the regular season games because they were so boring. I hoped that this whole regular season of playing hockey in the mud would be beneficial to us come playoff time. But again, in crunch time, they reverted back to being scared and timid. I really don't look forward to next season and this "System" that Berube likes so much. Especially when we don't have the players to implement it properly.
