Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

One would think this type of consistent failure would humble these arrogant pricks, but their obtuse view of reality is incredible……..

you know that's the thing that really blows my mind. there are people out there who justify the 'media training' they aren't going to say anything, bleh bleh it means nothing. but i think personally when you are 0-6 in elimination games. (and to be fair there are some people who who often wore those similar goat horns, Bruce Boudreau, Backstrom/Ovie etc)., you only score 1 goal in in 12 games in the second round (I can't remember the exact stat but for the 110 players who scored over 400 goals, you are the WORST. playoff performer)

to come out and go "well there were passengers on our team" is a whole other level of delulu.
The fact that he and a lot of other people here keep blaming the fan base for their crappy play is beyond pissing me off as well. What "intense pressure?" to go out there and do your job and not look like poo doing it? TO justify getting paid the amount of money you're getting paid by showing up and scoring more than one goal? to take ownership for YOUR play and say I'm disgusted and pissed off that MY play sucked, and it impacted how MY TEAM performed and WE are embarassed.

like i'm really sorry that this fan base wants to see he team win a stanley cup EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE LEAGUE except for Buffalo and Utah has won one since the Leafs last won one. Hell. CHICAGO CUBS has won the world series since the leafs won the stanley cup.

if you have to blame the fan base for your craptacular play, tear up your contract and go play in Switzerland, because i don't know what organization you're going to play for where the expectation is going to be different.

I think the management got to go.
start with shanny. fire him into lake ontario.

Yep, they're the ones that assembled the mess that they refused to fix for the last 9 years. I really don't blame the employees for f***ing the management around while the bosses all watched. Not one lower rung management had the balls to call out this travesty that we call the core 4.

Where was this heavier Berube forecheck we were supposed to get?
Trouble is one half of the team plays one way and the other half doesn’t. Florida plays the same way line 1-4.
That would be the one main complaint about Berube. It was kind of a square peg and round hole situation in that he didn't have the players to play his preferred style, yet he still insisted on a North-South style that not everyone could play. Our forecheck was horrible because we have no bangers....we never made the other teams D pay for retrieving pucks. I wish we had a 4th line of just bangers...some line that will take a pound of flesh every time they are on the ice.

I was very disappointed in Lorentz. Either he was hurt this last series or he was friends with too many FLA players to hit anyone. There was almost zero physicality from the bottom 6. Very disappointed. I guess it comes from the top down when you're talking identity.

We have the worst fans in all of sports.

I think the fans will get their wish of a clear out - we won't have to worry about play offs any time soon so you can all enjoy that.

I've been at football matches in Europe where the fans threw bananas at the black players. What the f*** are you even going on about?

Most of us were but don’t settle for a team that doesn’t show progress and has been seriously flawed for years now.

Nobody wants to say it but Leafs got a raw deal this year as much as they were out played, out coached and out managed.

The reffing was terrible, and the interference the NHL allows in the playoffs now is almost unwatchable.

Leafs got out coached in that regard, the Leafs D didn't run interference like the Panthers D did. I'm assuming this is why Maurice does the hard rim vs a soft corner dump. It's way harder to run interference on the hard rim.

Failing to deal him after the 2021 collapse was this organization's biggest failure.

Not dealing him before the NMC kicked in was their second.

It will cost Shanahan his job - yet itll overshadow completely overshadow how utterly inept Treliving has been at his job since he joined.
The issue with this team is the makeup of their core group. As soon as Treliving was hired, Shanahan called all of those players (who could have been traded then before their trade protection kicked in) and promised them that none of them would be traded. He basically tied Treliving’s hands in doing what was needed to be done. That is the team’s main flaw. A soft, overpaid core who disappear in the biggest games. The rest is window dressing.

agreed on all fronts, people say he is built for this market cuz nothing effects him, well its clear losing doesnt either. hes no better than the others.
He was intimidated. Panthers know how to get to these guys who never push back or fight through it.

No player wants to see another player take a pay cut, that makes it harder for the players to get raises……..

I mean they are all in the NHLPA, so if Marner gets paid that’s good for other players. So I don’t expect him to really say anything bad

it wasn't due to that IMO. Marchand was clearly trolling in 2019 see the tsn link below

slept on it thought I'd feel a little better the next day.

Nope! I am actually feeling a lot worse than I did yesterday. It was anger and disgust yesterday; its disgust, despair and sense of hopelessness today.

This franchise and I need a divorce lol
We are in this together unfortunately, we will be here in October cheering the boys on again, but I agree I woke up in a sweat this morning, completely pissed off, just kept going through this series in my head, and all the "what ifs" Brad has his work cut out for him, I think this is the summer where this team gets changes.

I think you have to get rid of Marner for sure, don't re-sign, I think trade Matthews as well.

Refresh the D core. Not sure about the goalie market, but a top end guy would be nice (still)

Need some draft capital and young players.

I would resign JT, because you're going to get PPG player at basically half price discount compared to anyone else in the league, and a centre at that.
They have Stolarz who led the league in SV% signed for another year. Just re-sign him. Goaltending is not their highest priority problem.

yea i know man. its been exhausting cheering this team. its not like we want this team to pull a rabbit out of the hat. we just want them to compete.

game 5 and game 7 losses was all due to lack of compete and commitment IMO. And its not like these are rookies learning the ropes. Its just so frustrating and disheartening

i mean, his defensive effort might never cut it in the post season. he out performs the others on offense, but hes by far the worst of the bunch in his own zone.

About right, I knew Mitch specifically wouldn't show up. He hasn't had a good game all series, garbage playoffs for him. Sort of surprised Tavares played so poorly.

I like the feeling after this loss though. Everybody seems to think and believe they are finally getting rid of some of the core.

Woll didn't play well at all in these playoffs, but he's good in his role as a 35 game backup.

Knies absolutely needs to be re-signed.

Robertson's probably gone

Reilly needs to be traded badly as well, he was the weak link in the defence core in the playoffs.

I'm not. Tavares busted his ass in the regular season to guarantee one last fat paycheck from MLSE before he retires. In the process he burned himself out come playoff time. If he was smart he would've saved some in the tank and had a monster playoff but ya... we seen how it turned out. If we resign Tavares we're going to watch a guy that's about to play like he's going into retirement and there will be regrets (from the fans at least).

I mean didn’t Marner prove he could be clutch in 4 nations? Maybe this just comes down to overall chemistry of the team. I would love for the Canucks to sign Mitch long term
The 4 Nations is nothing like the Stanley Cup playoffs playing against teams like the Panthers. You can have Mitch. He’ll help you make the playoffs but get ready for him to disappear in the playoffs when the going gets tough.

I’m a big Nylander fan of his skill and strength but he disappeared the last four games of this series. He was MIA like the rest of them.

We gave them everything. Generational wealth, no move clauses, signing bonuses and lucrative endorsements.

All we got was heartbreaks and embarrassments.

I watched the full game this morning despite a string of mocking texts spoiling the result. It is a new low. I feel for Knies, Benoit, Tanev, OEL and some other guys. But they collectively make it very hard to remain a fan and invest time, money and hope.
And you still watched it??

I got up at 5 to watch it, everyone knows not to text me, but once it was 3-0 I just started fast forwarding..

Look, I know this is hearsay/rumors and it very well may get deleted. I wasn't even going to share it (I've been sitting on this for over 48 hours) but since the passengers comment I feel it merits being aired in here. My cousin has an uncle, unrelated to me, who went to game 6 in Florida, and ended up in the same hotel as them. Spent a lot of time bumping shoulders with them. Here's what he said...
Not sure if this legit but it wouldn’t surprise me. He cares more about which hand bag he’s carrying than his teammates.

i feel like these guys are all waiting for some else to do it in the big moments, man remember when this whole thing started and everyone was so hopeful? when marner dove to block a shot vs boston in 2018 and everyone loved him for it? how the mighty have fallen.

Treliving tried to trade Nylander for a Dman - I put 0 stock into these Shanahan phone calls or any handcuffing.
