Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

You have to play aggressive to draw penalties. It’s impossible to draw penalties when guys like Matthews are constantly doing curl and drag shots from the blue line. Getting the puck in and going to work is a rarity for the Leafs.
If you were watching hockey for the first time ever in this series. You wouldn't understand what a penalty is. How could you? The rules change game by game.

So you get rid of Shanny and then what? Remember where we were before, “leaf fans could never sustain a rebuild”. He traded away everyone and they bottomed out.

Where he went wrong was firing Babcock. Sorry guys, shows how what coddling has done to these guys. The other was Dubas. He was useless, wasted assets. Say what you want but Hunter, both of them, have the Knights humming every year. I think doing that in junior is far more difficult with the turnover.

So now what. You let him go who walks in? What’s the philosophy? Do you get a tried a true like Rutherford or do you go young? I know what I would do. I’d drive the 401 and go see Mark and put a cheque in front of him and say how much to be president and wouldn’t that be ironic. He takes over the position of the guy that never chose him. Then ask him who he wants as an assistant and go get that person. To me with him, Treliving and Berube they will figure it out.
Shanny is done. They probably eliminate his position. As you said, he went off the rails when he moved off Babs and Lou and handed the keys to a moron who thought he was smarter than everybody else.

This f***ing idiot was too stupid to see that he kept betting on the wrong horses. He's a politician and a bad one at that. Good riddance.

Accountability throughout the organization,
Strip the C and the A's untill someone proves they can handle it.
Shanahan can take a hike.
Organizational salary cap on players until they Prove they can win then they get paid.

Hilarious to blame the fans or so called pressure on this cores many failures. New flash! Teams across the globe in any sport with a large following and heavy media scrutiny win. The Leafs probably aren’t even in the top 20 most criticized professional sports teams on the planet.

This team sucks because the core players are chokers, period. They go into these high stakes games and they never ever elevate. The only two series they’ve won was when they fluked out multiple OT wins to build near insurmountable 3-1 and 3-0 leads and the margin for error was greater.

Many mistakes by management and coaching too. But the biggest culprits are our core guys who demanded the world and failed to hold up their end of the bargain. Now the band will be broken up and they’ve got no one to blame but themselves.

Shanny and co rushed the rebuild. The fans are as bipolar as management. They all begged for a rebuild and as soon as they looked like they were going to the playoffs they went all in - every single year. They even admitted to rushing it at the time and justified "accelerating" it. There were some of us here who said no it's not right, we need to be patient and keep building but the fans once again bought all the hype and forgot the principles they cried for, as did management.

Should have traded jvr and Bozak on expiring deals at the deadline.
Shouldn't have traded two seconds for Boyle.
Shouldn't have signed Tavares.
Shouldn't have signed a player like Marleau that early.

I personally was against each of these moves on my old account. So were some others on this forum but they were a small minority.

But the Leafs can't delay gratification. Greed. This fanbase doesn't ever deserve another rebuild because they can't handle it.
Woah there. Not everyone wanted this thing rushed. I didn't want to do the Muzzin deal because it was too soon. I wanted them to hold onto the 1st round pick and kept Marleau for one more year.

I wanted Marner and Tavares gone after the Columbus series. Funnily enough I suggested Seth Jones and picks/prospects from Columbus when there was rumors about an offer sheet.

I wanted the rebuild to last longer. They weren't ready and some of us said so at the time.

They are gonna promote Brad. He’ll probably do both jobs or I can see them bring In Rob Blake to be the GM.

Another thing driving me mental after this loss, all the nhlers (Tkachuk, Marchand, Cooper, Maurice etc) always commenting on how hard it is for the Leafs to play in Toronto because of all the pressure and they’d be “a great team if they weren’t in Toronto”. Absolutely utter horse poop. The fan base has stuck with the team paying more than any other fan base after going through the longest cup drought in nhl, a period of non playoff absolute garbage from 2004-2016, an “it was 4-1” embarrassment, to a few more years of garbage, to finally some hope with Matthews/Marner/Willie only to have them crap the bed for a decade. So get lost with all the “it’s the fans fault” garbage. We’re the most loyal fanbase in sports.
You're entitled to your opinion, but the noise here is unlike anywhere else in the league. I completely understand why they believe this, there is nothing horse poop about it.

Biggest goal scoring playoff performers and underperformers, relative to regular season production.

One thing I really didn’t like as the series went on is how little McCabe did to help slow down the Florida forecheck on Tanev. His partner needed to do a better job of protecting and also fighting for him when he was getting abused like that.

Didn’t mind McCabe otherwise at all. But I wonder if he could be replaced with a different kind of LHD.
McCabe had a tough series. Either injured or out of gas. He was not effective and Tanev was on his own out there.

What Shanahan forgot about Yzerman winning is that unlike Matthews, Yzerman had been solid-good in the playoffs, by year 8 he had 19 goals/28 assists in 39 games, higher gpg, higher apg, higher ppg than Glassews 23 goals/25 assists in 55 playoff games going into this year.

Then Detroit basically added Tkachuk (Shanahan) and Makar (Lidstrom).

So, the players they added are completely different than what we added/have; a true power forward and a generational 1D who honestly might be the best D ever, we're in year 9 with Glassews and co and we're depending on a 35/34 year old D to be our best guys lol.

The only thing as fans we can look forward to now is when Shanafraud goes, a truly abysmal 10 years. He and the rest of them can honestly go f*** themselves.

Your coach has no answers. What a let down. Unacceptable from Berube.

It’s a player personnel thing which isn’t his area - that’s the GM and higher up. He plays who he’s given. Berube is as flabbergasted as us how our star players can dive that type of effort in a game of this magnitude. He’s seeing first hand what we as fans have seen for nearly a decade. Everything around the core has been changed.

We knew 2 years ago the issue was the core but Shanahan decided to keep hitting his head against a wall.

Yea these players don’t need to be coddled. They are demanding more money than 80% of the league. If they are gonna be paid like gods among men they should f***ing play like it.

Literally all they live off of is compliments when they lose and high paying contracts.

The fans aren’t the bad guys in this. It’s the team that builds up expectations and fails in horrendous fashion yet demands more money. They are the ones who deserve all the blame.

Do they say this about the Habs, Vancouver (burnt a city down after a loss), the Yankees? The Dodgers? The Red Socks? The Lakers? Man U? The noise is comparable or more in those places. Do you really think the fans are to blame for this core not being able to get it done (which is what the “blame the fans” kind of implies). The noise is only this loud now because of the long time lack of success.

If they’re going to fill Shanny’s role, I would make talking to Hunter a part of that process. I also wouldn’t blame him if laughed and slammed the door in their faces.

But they might go with Treliving reporting directly to Pelley? In which case, they owe it to the fans to tell us which of them is making the decisions.
