Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

"...I thought they came out a little bit hungrier than us."
Gonna buy a copy of this for every Leaf to read over the summer:

Goal #1 3 Panthers are in front of Matthews, Marner and Knies. Despite this, all 3 leafs forwards stopped skating. Watch the highlight and you hear a hair raising scream from the bench, im assuming a leaf coach yelling them to wake up and Marner and Knies suddenly turn on the jets...but its too late.

Its shocking to hear Matthews say too many passengers when the most critical goal was because once again his line doesnt understand play to the whistle. And three of them wear letters (with Reilly included).

The Pastrnak goal last year were the very same culprits, falling asleep momentarily. Jeez... its not hard, dont relax for a second! Play to the whistle!

Below: Panther who scores is in blue. Notice Knies, Matthews and Marner are behind 3 panthers and all 3 leafs are standing straight up and have stopped skating.

This experiment has gone on too long they have given this core too much time too many chances. For whatever reason this core can not get over the hump. It's not going to change until something in the top core players changes. They say madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Leafs need some new bodies in that locker room.

* History of game 7 losses
* History of early playoff exits
* Literally Lost to the Panthers two years ago
* Constantly get called out for not performing as a core
* Blown out in game 5 at home to the same team

But somehow... the other team was hungrier?

He can't say. I'm a perennial chocker that can't elevate my game when it matters.

Some of you weren't here when we made the playoffs once in ten years and it shows.
Been around much longer than that. We were told the team was rebuilding, to be patient, to embrace tank nation. So we did in hopes like the Blackhawks or the Penguins before them, we'd win a few cups. Except almost a decade later, not only is there no cup, we haven't even made it out of the second round. I don't give a flying f*** if we make the playoffs for the next 20 years straight. I've been waiting for a cup my entire life and this joke of an organization can't even get to the finals let alone win one. Most inept hockey team in the last 58 years, imagine trying to make excuses for them.

Whether you like marner or not losing him for next to nothing is a disaster of asset management. He's a top 5 winger in the league and he will be dealt when every gm knows the leafs are over a barrel.
Dealt? He's a free agent, the Leafs are getting nothing back but cap room.

Top 5 winger at what? Disappearing in games 5-7 every year?

Totally gettable game after Domi made it 3-1. Then that laugher from Listo instantly past Woll. That goal just can't happen. That was the dagger - didn't matter what the score was gonna be after that one. It was over.
I would think being down 3-0 in the third is the dagger but whatever

I just watched all of the goals. He should have stopped 2 of the 5 for sure. I'd got so far as to say you'd like at least one save on the other two. I stated in the GDT that they should have pulled Woll after the 2nd, just to give a different look. He's not the sole or the biggest reason they lost tonight, but he played a fair part in our demise.

The leafs are so screwed. You can only rebuild with picks and prospects, which the leafs have very few of. We will run the course and the leafs will fade and it’ll be scorched earth again. Fml

they will never ever win while Matthews is on this team.

The players can't rally around him and in all honesty are probably turned off by his off-ice actions with his lack of emotion, lack of leadership and with his focus being on his radical dress code and outlandish appearance and being a celebrity instead of a dedicated hockey player who wants to win... the guy just doesn't care, it's clear as day. No doubt the rest of the dressing room is looking at him thinking, 'THIS guy is supposed to be our captain?'

they absolutely HAVE to trade him and get him off the team. It's the only way they can move forward, otherwise respectable players are going to continue to avoid this franchise
I want to apologize to you. You knew these clowns would fail the whole time and warned us during the Ottawa series, but I wanted to believe this team was different, that were going to take the next step. Boy was I wrong. Same old gutless, lazy, overpaid and entitled babies. This organization is cursed with ineptitude.

I mean didn’t Marner prove he could be clutch in 4 nations? Maybe this just comes down to overall chemistry of the team. I would love for the Canucks to sign Mitch long term
I think it's more so what we see playing with McDavid does for you, i.e Corey Perry has now equaled Matthews career playoff high in goals scored in a single playoffs with 5 (he had 5 in 9, which Matthews has only beaten 2/11 playoffs) or Zach Hyman scoring 50 aka everyone looks like a genius next to him or when McDavid is taking the best matchups and you can feast on lesser ones.

Mitch has had plenty of opportunity to be clutch for the Leafs, he goes from a 30 goal/70 assist guy to a 15 goal/55 assist guy season to playoffs.

Feel free to sign Mitch, basically all of us want him gone, maybe he'll get you to the playoffs, just don't expect much after that.

Embarrassed to be a leaf fan with how the fanbase is reacting. Booing the team, throwing jerseys on the ice... grow up.
They should have boo'd louder, most of them had the good sense to just leave that travesty of a performance.

Fans like you who demand zero accountability and sit there like idiots waving their blue and white pom poms are the reason this franchise is the laughing stock of the NHL.

Don't worry though, they just need to run it back a few more times and they'll make it out of the 2nd round for you. Probably in 2075 if you're still around.

Games 7's are all about the unsung hero's and sometimes your star players. Nick Paul sunk us in game 7 before etc. Pasta scored the GWG in OT last year after being garbage for the entire series.

It was 3-0 & 4-1 and None of FLA top 6 had torched us to that point.. Jones, Lundell, Gadjovich, Luostarinen were the goal scorers.

To me in this series, the depth really sunk us, they weren't able to provide any offence ability nor generate little to any momentum for the team with a big hit or heavy shift.

Yes the big boys did f*** all, but neither did there's... Can't have 5 out of your 6 bottom forwards go goalless in 13 games played. A lot of what If's but a goal from someone else not named Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Nylander/Knies in game 3 (when it was 2-0 or 3-1..).. or in game 4 when it was 1-0 for majoirty of the game and they didn't play very well could have went a long way...
Yes let's blame the guys making league minimum and not the $10 million+ players.

Some of this fanbase is a bigger joke than the Core 4.

Well, if there’s one good thing I can say about the Leafs organization, it’s that following this team has brought me together with all of you for the past 20 years or so. I think I’m on my third username by now. I’ve left this board a few times after painful exits like the one we just witnessed, only to return years later with a new handle after forgetting my login.

My favorite stretch here was probably during the Tank Nation days, then winning the draft lottery, back when it felt like a Cup was finally within reach. And yet, here we are.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks. This place has genuinely been cathartic over the years. The posts after each Game 7 meltdown helped me cope with the unique horror of cheering for this cursed, dysfunctional franchise.

It’s been a blast hanging out in the GDTs with the regulars (you know who you are). I’ll definitely miss you all, but I’ve hit my limit. I can’t give this team any more of my time or money. I’m officially in “believe it when I see it” mode. If we ever make it to a Cup Final, maybe I’ll pop back in. If not, well, it’s been a slice.

Take care, my friends.

Look, I know this is hearsay/rumors and it very well may get deleted. I wasn't even going to share it (I've been sitting on this for over 48 hours) but since the passengers comment I feel it merits being aired in here. My cousin has an uncle, unrelated to me, who went to game 6 in Florida, and ended up in the same hotel as them. Spent a lot of time bumping shoulders with them. Here's what he said...
Ordinarily I would call BS on hearsay stories like this. But, I'm reminded of the ROR situation and how he not only chose to play in Nashville over us last year, but, even when his Stanley Cup winning coach from just 6 years ago got brought on to this team and he STILL refused to waive his no trade clause to come here speaks massive volumes of the Discord that must be in that locker room, potentially regarding the core 4.
