Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

Sign and trade Marner to which ever team can get you the best return and where he wants to go. I just can't imagine him coming back and Leafs management selling it to their fans that staying the course is the way to go. Its not even like last year where you lost game 7 in OT 2-1. These guys got BLOWN THE HELL UP IN THEIR OWN BUILDING IN GAME 7 TONIGHT.

Like I keep saying, I like Marner as a person as he seems to be a good guy and it would've been great to see a local kid grow up and succeed with the Leafs, but we've given this core 9 seasons to figure it out and they haven't even come close to it. Its tough to do, but time to move on instead of more insanity of giving them more chances.

This core 4 is done. If Brad doesn't move on from Marner and instead signs him to a big long term contract, Leafs fans everywhere should riot.
The sign and trade is always a possibility for a player wanting that extra year,my other team is losing ehlers in same scenario, for the most part I like to see all canadian teams strong so my fellow northerners get to see good hockey,it is our game.when your families been here over a few hundred years and some since the ice age you have family all across the land.

88 shows up when he wants, looks like an art ross type of guy, the other parts, he isnt interested at all. He was top 5 in points when he was playing for a contract. Great player but its when he wants.
How did you pick 88 as the guy to comment about lol wtf

He should have been dealt when he bailed in game 7 last year but the decision was to hang on and try to win something.. well, he got very little respec in the handshake line tonight. He's gone.
He should have been delt after Montreal. At the latest he should have been delt before his no trade kicked in. Hindsight is 20/20 though. I don't know what we do with Matthews though. Given the apparent stranglehold he has on this franchise. Can't imagine how he'll feel with his butt buddy gone.

Super disappointing ending to the season. It was boys against men out there tonight for game 7. One team played with desperation and wanted it more. Maybe a goal from Lorentz or Laughton in the first would have changed the game, but the lack of general pushback from the team is something else.

It would be the most common sense of Shanahan being let go and Marner leaving, but I could see Shanahan still being employed if he's able to change his tune about keeping the band together. At the end of the day, he's made MLSE money by being in the playoffs for 9 seasons in a row, that's success to them whether we like it not.

It's very clear though this team needs to acquire more depth and balance to the roster. Toronto is gonna pay the price I believe and do that with letting Marner walk, but building your team through free agency is not the smartest idea, but that's a conversation for another day.

In an ideal world we get him to waive and get two good young players for him.

If we have to bring him back.. just more of the same but at least Marner won't be there with him.

Clean out Rielly... JT.. Overspend on some free agents to try and rebuild on the fly.

Whether you like marner or not losing him for next to nothing is a disaster of asset management. He's a top 5 winger in the league and he will be dealt when every gm knows the leafs are over a barrel.
Failing to deal him after the 2021 collapse was this organization's biggest failure.

Not dealing him before the NMC kicked in was their second.

It will cost Shanahan his job - yet itll overshadow completely overshadow how utterly inept Treliving has been at his job since he joined.

Better question is how is he never held accountable because he scores?

If he's not scoring his D is among the worst on the team. His effort IS the worst on the team.

He was terrible tonight.
agreed on all fronts, people say he is built for this market cuz nothing effects him, well its clear losing doesnt either. hes no better than the others.

Its the perfect built in excuse for when he under performs.

As far as we know he was messed up in the Boston series and had no problem sitting out as the Leafs went down 3-1.

Came back for game 7, presumably not healthy and that was it.

No surgery in the summer, and was being load managed the first workout in September. So he either hurt himself in the summer or didn’t bother spending the summer to correct what was preciously messed up.

Terrible start to the year. Doesn’t get surgery but misses time and goes to Germany.

Comes back, plays at 4 Nations where he gets hurt with a new injury and is load managed.

Doesn’t take any time off in March or go on LTIR. No more treatments. No serious rest or ramp up for the playoffs.

He was bad.. we give him the ghost of JT and Sir Pontus to play with.. he's always second fiddle to Robin and Robin... No batman between 16 and 34.

I think you have to get rid of Marner for sure, don't re-sign, I think trade Matthews as well.

Refresh the D core. Not sure about the goalie market, but a top end guy would be nice (still)

Need some draft capital and young players.

I would resign JT, because you're going to get PPG player at basically half price discount compared to anyone else in the league, and a centre at that.

It would be nice to see more Canadian teams do well, but right now it seems like its only the Oilers who look like the strongest Canadian team in the playoffs. Leafs and Jets look good in the regular season, but come playoff time they both seem to come up short and disappoint for whatever reason. Ottawa and Habs both decent this year, but not sure if they'll improve or not next year. Flames maybe can improve enough to get into the playoffs, Nucks probably looking the worst right now.

Even though I should be hating the Habs and Sens because of rivalries, I still find myself cheering for them and the other Canadian teams as long as they're not facing the Leafs.

I have to agree with Maurice here.

I think the leafs showed some growth this year.

It would be a mistake for you guys to run Mitchy out of town, out of anger and panic.

I know this sounds like insanity, but I'd just run it back.
Skip Bayless, lol.
I agree, I think Dubas was canned for wanting to trade Marner in 2023 and I think that was the move Dubas wanted to go over Shanahans head to make.
He was canned because he tried to take Shanahan's job after agreeing to terms and having Pittsburgh's offer in his back pocket.
I'd build around Knies and Benoit.

Just need:
5 top 6 forwards
6 bottom 6 forwards
5 dmen
2 goalies

Piece of piss.
Benoit has heart but he's a 3rd pair D. No one build around that.

anyone remember babs first year when we got the 1st overall pick to draft matthews? they sucked so bad but tried so hard. i liked that team more than this one over the past 5 years.
That team just couldn't score. Add two 40 goal scorers and they might have made a conference final.
