Whether you like marner or not losing him for next to nothing is a disaster of asset management. He's a top 5 winger in the league and he will be dealt when every gm knows the leafs are over a barrel.
That's why a good GM would leverage the 8th year of a contract that only we can offer to him and actually get something back.

He should have been dealt when he bailed in game 7 last year but the decision was to hang on and try to win something.. well, he got very little respec in the handshake line tonight. He's gone.

Did any media member actually ask him what his injury was?

We can say what it is now, right?

Do you want him to admit it? Looks bad on him.

Management will release it through a surgery announcement, coach or 'sources'

Just watched the post game on TSN. My thought that Matthews , Tavares, and Marner are big game losers just got 100% bigger. Other than Marner winning the OHL and the Memorial Cup in London those guys have done nothing when it counts in the pros.

Tanev was our most consistent player all year, I thought... I'm glad we have him for the rest of his career and I know we'll get some "Ron Hainsey" type of years out of him... Before anyone criticizes me for bringing up Hainsey , the guy didn't play flashy, but he was rock solid as a Leaf, especially as an "older" guy.

I don’t think he can escape looking poorly. If it was a significant injury the way it was handled throughout the year was poor. If it wasn’t that serious it takes away his blanket excuses for a very poor season.

One thing I really didn’t like as the series went on is how little McCabe did to help slow down the Florida forecheck on Tanev. His partner needed to do a better job of protecting and also fighting for him when he was getting abused like that.

Didn’t mind McCabe otherwise at all. But I wonder if he could be replaced with a different kind of LHD.

This team

Teams lose game 7's, that's sport but to get curb stomped like that? What's wrong with them? Where's the professional pride? Fighting for the guy next to you? The desperation?

I've supported some bloody bad teams over the years but I've never seen a more gutless performance in my life, this team may be talented but the mental midgets and I wouldn't want any of them protecting my back in a fight

Jesus f***ing christ these guys are so tone deaf.

Matthews and marner calling out their teammates for not being on the same page and being passengers??? Seriously?? These 2? The biggest passengers in the 9 playoff years.

Take some f***ing accountability. Just say, I should have been better. But nope. Unbelievable.
they will never ever win while Matthews is on this team.

The players can't rally around him and in all honesty are probably turned off by his off-ice actions with his lack of emotion, lack of leadership and with his focus being on his radical dress code and outlandish appearance and being a celebrity instead of a dedicated hockey player who wants to win... the guy just doesn't care, it's clear as day. No doubt the rest of the dressing room is looking at him thinking, 'THIS guy is supposed to be our captain?'

they absolutely HAVE to trade him and get him off the team. It's the only way they can move forward, otherwise respectable players are going to continue to avoid this franchise

Yup as much as he is a playoffs flop you just can't lose that for nothing, and it's going to be a big regular season loss.
Sign and trade Marner to which ever team can get you the best return and where he wants to go. I just can't imagine him coming back and Leafs management selling it to their fans that staying the course is the way to go. Its not even like last year where you lost game 7 in OT 2-1. These guys got BLOWN THE HELL UP IN THEIR OWN BUILDING IN GAME 7 TONIGHT.

Like I keep saying, I like Marner as a person as he seems to be a good guy and it would've been great to see a local kid grow up and succeed with the Leafs, but we've given this core 9 seasons to figure it out and they haven't even come close to it. Its tough to do, but time to move on instead of more insanity of giving them more chances.

This core 4 is done. If Brad doesn't move on from Marner and instead signs him to a big long term contract, Leafs fans everywhere should riot.

At least we knew they were going to lose so they basically gave us free money 😅

Sign Evan Bouchard in free agency
Just for the record Bouchard is RFA so would have to offer sheet and give up multiple firsts. Leafs already traded away 26 and 27 first as well. Regardless I think Oilers would match anything short of four 1sts compensation which isn’t a smart move for the leafs.

It's just for clarity.

So little is known, yet it seems to crop up every year. Is it even fixable with surgery?

He never even discloses what’s wrong with him so how can anyone ever know if the right decisions are being made to fix the problem?
