Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

The entire league was openly mocking the Leafs up until the conclusion of this series. They can't stop gaslighting this market.
Of course, they wish the Leafs keep this core together for a few more runs at the Cup, lol

Doesn't really matter how good Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Tavares or Rielly are. Together they combine to suck when it matters.

They will all go on to have great/good season in other organizations. They are all talented players. But they also lack a major component to success in big games, and as such, together form a group of collective chokers. Not a single one of them will win a big tournament as the number 1 or 2 guys. None.

So what's the point of running it back? What's the point of keeping Matthews, who, given his massive contract, will have to be the number one guy? You won't win.

Rebuild it.

My guess is I think a lot of people in hockey think this market is overly critical of the organization.

But the truth is, it’s been since 67 since we’ve won anything. So ya we are going to be critical because why is it taking this long to build a winner?

All it says is there are a lot of poorly run teams in a 32 team league that people look at Toronto’s organization positively. All the talent in the world but just massive character defects at the top.

Hate to break it to you guys, but what has this franchise done to make you think they won’t run it back again?
Guaranteed end of year press conference: We liked what they did, how they bought into Berube’s system and made great strides taking the defending Cup champs to 7 games in the 2nd round. Blah, blah, lessons learned, we are right there, it’s all good, good people, yada, yada. The end.

honestly what it is is, - this is a market where you can't just show up, look like you've tried, spout a cliche and go home. I'll even say this, I don't even think we're super critical of the organization, we simply just want them to do their damn jobs properly and they go out of their way not to do so.. again not speaking for a crap tonne of fans, but again for me if this team lost 2-1 but they were murdering people trying to get that last goal, I don't think a lot of people would be this frustrated.

the fact that these dumbos can't see that is asinine. we are legit not asking for that much anymore. Just show up and play like you actually care. they can't even do that, and we get crapped on for calling it out.

I agree, I think Dubas was canned for wanting to trade Marner in 2023 and I think that was the move Dubas wanted to go over Shanahans head to make.
Ultimately, shanny has to take the fall here. I expect him gone this week

He's at fault for marner leaving for zero assets, when it was clear as day like you said in 2023 we can't have this many softies and expect a deep run.

the problem is the team shelters its players so much they have created this situation. on leafs talk they mentioned that they have the 3 biggest leafs related shows and they had never had a leaf on the show(or maybe the said oel went on when he hit 1000 games) but the players and the organization have created the adversarial relationship.

Get rid of every single non-accountable guy.

Just so we're clear - Marner and Matthews are top of that list.

Not on that list: Tavares, Knies.

Just listen to the interviews after tough losses, and you will have your answer.
If they say "we" and not "me / I" . . . then good bye.

Simple!
I don't care if he was washed up. Would rather have JT as the Captain over Matthews.

Don't care if he's injured and requires surgery. That interview was puke worthy. He is not a leader. He's just a good hockey player.

I mean, one way for marner to turn around his image right now would be to sign for a paycut. 9 million isn't chump change.

Idk if I'm a lifelong leafs fan, the dream of being on the team that finally hoists the cup, to have my statue at legends row, my number up on the rafters, I would do it for 2 million.

Well it’s easy being a Leafs fan. 15 years and counting. Watch regular season games at over priced tickets, occasionally get a good draft pick, occasionally get a good goalie, maybe get into playoffs and if we do get in we shouldn’t expect to win. If they win a round it’s a fluke. Pretty easy, we get early summer days to enjoy than a bunch of other teams. 🤡

It will never happen. He’s leaving and going to make $100 million more

What if MM is willing to sign for 8mil for 2-3yrs with the Leafs and then cash out when the cap really jump in a few years with Leafs or another team.

Would he receives less criticism?

Shanahan will say he takes responsibility- not resign- and continue collecting his big fat cheques.

Fitting that on a night where the curtain finally fell on the core 4 for good, it was Bobby McMann and Simon Benoit who led the Leafs in shots (3 each).

In a game 7, all that money, and they still couldn't produce more shots than Simon Benoit 😂

Burn this bitch to the ground.
I'd build around Knies and Benoit.

Just need:
5 top 6 forwards
6 bottom 6 forwards
5 dmen
2 goalies

Piece of piss.

We Drafted top end talent, the only problem is we Drafted guys with no heart, no desire to win, and do not hate losing enough!
There are different levels of draft successes.
There's the Yakupovs who never pan out, there's the Marner/Matthews who have great individual career numbers but never win a damn thing in the NHL.

Yes Shanny will fall on the sword. I think he’s gone within the month as well. Like I said in the Marner thread, regardless of how much you like a player, as a fan of the team you have to accept what’s in front of us. 9 years of this shit, you cannot run it back. You have to make big changes.

I think you let both Marner and JT walk. Get rid of Shanahan, promote Tre to President and bring in a GM that aligns with your views of how to build a team. I honestly wouldn’t mind a Treliving president, Rob Blake GM combination.
