It's sad to see it.
Young Knies playing hurt, great production throughout the playoff run.
Inconsistent Nylander scoring in bunches and getting his breakaway looks.
Old JT finding his scoring touch at times in the series, almost won us Game 3 by himself.
Pacioretty digging deep and scoring a series winner for us, sealing the deal in Game 6 in Florida.
Benoit with an OT winner.
Domi with an OT winner and more goals than the captain himself.
OEL with a couple of big goals earlier in the run.
Playoff Rielly chipping in with a few clutch goals when he wasn't coughing up goodies for the opposition.
Scratch and score Nicky Bobby.
Tanev with 1 goal.
If all these guys were passengers, maybe the stage was just set for Auston to do something truly special. Nope.
I think the rest of the league recognizes their talent. But as fans we deserve more than what we’ve gotten in the 9 years with them. So it’s hard for us to not be upset.

Thats a good point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we have a winning record with him out? And I feel like those games the team plays better.

That poster is a Habs fan. Obviously he would love to see the Leafs keep everyone together for years to come.
We do, an insanely good record without him. I think if you could, you trade Matthews and keep Marner and Nylander tbh.
I would trade AM and Reilly to Vancouver for Petey and Hughes.
I would have more faith in getting Petey to prepare himself better than teaching Reilly to play defense and AM to not choke in playoffs.

Hughes will not sign long term in Toronto. Even Jim Rutherford said it in the Vancouver end of season press conference. Quinn has his mind set on playing with his brothers. Either they find away to get the brothers to Vancouver or he is going to New Jersey.

Overall Marner doesnt sound like a player who wants to leave. So... as thought, just him and his team releasing rumors of him leaving, in an attempt to squeeze out every last penny. Remember they said they werent going to negotiate in the media. They definitely were... thanks Marner for continuing to be a huge distraction. Not like it wouldnt have been helpful to not talk all year and read all year about Marner.
He better be gone this offseason.

The last 3 years of him were 6th best, 9th best, and 2nd best... so better than the D assembled this year.

Dubas failed, you don't need to keep bringing him up, but Treliving has also failed, and pretending the D he assembled was a success is weird.

It is fixable, but Leafs.will need to eat salary. How they kept Reilly when it is clear he can't handle the heat...I dont know. The franchise is just a large government organization.. They need to know,.finally, he just will.NEVER have it.when it most matters. Ditto for. Marner.etc. keep Nylander and Mattews, that is enough vanilla on one team. I think of the players I wanted Leafs to grab in UFA over the years and how many won Cups. I will say it again, consider that we.couldnt re-sign Hyman due to the massive big contracts. He is exactly what this team needs 3-4 of.
Both need to go along.
They are just rotten. I am not someone who picks on players post series comments right after they got eliminated but how the F can they call the team a whole bunch of passengers after their own performance in the Game 7.

Bennett is series MVP for his dirty knocking out of Stolarz. We win this series with Stolarz in net. Scummy play by Bennett gets the job done and Punch Drunk Parros gives the Panthers a free pass to be as dirty as possible.
In response our guys fall apart.
Lots of skill, but not nearly enough will and our mental midgets were repeatedly exposed.
Changes are needed, starting with Shanahan being fired. He failed and his choices, his stubbornness first in bringing in newbie’s in Dubas and Keefe to learn on the job, allow them to fail over and over, and then keep running it back year after year, enough is enough.
This needs to end and start a new era.

Gotta win, like, now. They'll give us a better shot for a year or two. That's all the window we've got. Matthews and Nylander are in their prime and will start slowly degrading.
And these are the same but better kind of players we are trading multiple first rounders and top prospects for at trade deadlines. Get'em up front and stop mortgaging the entire future.
