Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

what a load of crap berube. some if not most leafs fans have been saying this for years now especially after that montreal series debacle

also its not just the mindset its the attitude. Game 5 was a prime example of that. it wasn't a mindset issue it was a lack of motivation to get it done issue

It shows to me Berube did the best he could.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink it. Management refuses to see this core can’t get it done but they trot them out year in and out changing the pieces around.

Everything around Marner, Matthews, JT, Nylander, and Rielly has changed

And yet, no different results

The first 8 minutes of the game was literally the most pathetic play of hockey I have ever seen from any hockey team at any level in my lifetime. The core group should be embarrassed, but they won't. It's another day at the office for them.

I think in a lot of ways, the game was over. Yes, we did pushback, but Florida could sense we just didn't really have any answers for their forecheck. In order for us to have any chance, Lorentz needed to score on that breakaway. And no, I'm not putting this loss on Lorentz, per se; it was a team no show.

He's muzzled like Keefe, anybody remember this:

Hickey on hockey: Maple Leafs coach Keefe backtracks after blowback

“I used some of the wrong words to try and describe what I was trying to,” he said.

Does anyone else find it somewhat comical that Matthews in the post-game press conference and Marner during the game were calling out their teammates all while THEY were the passengers? Like seriouly, how many eye rolls did Marners tirade get... more than one I am guessing.

Jesus f***ing christ these guys are so tone deaf.

Matthews and marner calling out their teammates for not being on the same page and being passengers??? Seriously?? These 2? The biggest passengers in the 9 playoff years.

Take some f***ing accountability. Just say, I should have been better. But nope. Unbelievable.

Yeah that is pretty rich coming from two guys who have underachieved for the better part of a decade while making 10+ million a year.

Leadership!

Why is no one blaming the system and the coaching? Please explain to me how this was any different than the Babcock era where our only breakout was stretch passes and rush plays? How is it that Florida breaks out the puck as a unit and cycles the puck with a structure but the Leafs can only possess the puck on the rush? How can you not expect to get out chanced and out shot badly?
Bingo. My thoughts exactly. Our defensive zone exits are embarrassing. The Panthers schooled us, not only tonight, but for the entire series in this.

Maybe he kept them together just as a proof of concept either way. Sink or swim. Guess what they tend to do.
I fully believe this. Berube has stated throughout the season and in the playoffs, indirectly mind you, that yes it is a team, but the best players have to be the best players. They were not when it mattered. They have never been when it mattered. I did see this as one final test because I think management felt the team around them was as good as they could put together.

You have some odd theories... maybe he just thought they gave them the best chance to win?

I felt Berube was jumping in front a bullet by saying he has no explanation. What I suspect he meant was, “i don’t know why this team just wilts”.

I have to smirk at the comments "it will be an interesting off season", "changes are surely coming" etc etc etc. This team is so handcuffed it isn't funny and no draft picks on the horizon.
Many want to see Shany canned (I am one of those). Big deal, it is such an unpackful position , you can out a chimp in there and it wouldn't make a difference. Unless Shany was the one vetoing trades and signings, agreeing to huge contracts. Then I agree the positional change may make a difference.
Berube I'm not a fan of, he did an excellent job with stubborn players that are tough to reign in.
With this kind of high powered team they needed to be themselves and the bottom grouping the grinders and punishers. The bottom 6 are horrendous and shouldn't even be in the NHL. Jarnkrok, Holmberg, Lorentz, Kampf, McMann,
Playing a style with these players doesn't work.
I know there is only one Jon Copper but these are the kind of coaches we should be striving for.
Not even upset here as usual, my soul left when we lost to the Habs and Columbus.
Changes will come and go but rarely do they make the correct ones. 1993 leafs were a hell of
a team, had the right ingredients.
This team isn't it, simply not tough enough, period.

I bet this seasons exit interviews are going to be a LOT different than in years past.

Dreger can f*** right off with his defending Marner. We should all remember how instrumental he was in driving up his first big contract.
Media shills who go hard for players use them (or their camp) for insider info.

Its why the entire corp media would activate to defend Dubas. Notice how no one rushes to defend Tre, ever.

I know he's not going anywhere but Joseph Woll has got to go.

And before It's just about tonight.

It's about game 3 which he single handily lost and no matter what excuse you make he DID single handily lose game 3 if he's even average in game 3 we are talking about a conference final series against Carolina and I think they beat Carolina.

It's about last year when he pulled himself from game 7 like a gutless coward because that's what that was that was a coward move.

He's James Reimer 2.0 he looks like he can win a f***ing Vezina one night and he turns into a piece of shit the next.

James Reimer lost 8 in a row to cost the team the playoffs because James Reimer was a coward, James Reimer is the reason I'm so hard on goalies.

Joseph Woll is James Reimer 2.0 he will show you flashes just like James Reimer did.

But at the end of the day just like James Reimer Joseph Woll is a gutless coward.

To qoute The Rock

"OFF IS THE DIRECTION YOU CAN f***."

The high ceiling, low floor, high volume bleed out goaltending of Joseph Woll can’t be trusted.

I guarantee the Leafs will spend the next number of seasons expecting to get him back or the level of the Boston series but he’s going to bite them from the greatest hits of the Florida series.

He’s not wired right for the Leafs. Wrong mix of too chill, not enough battle to freak out. I notice the demeanor in his interviews went from shaky to chilled out as the series went on, sometimes too nonchalant on the losses.
