Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

The same system allowed the Leafs to win 3 games plus another game where they were leading most of the game.
they scraped by in game 6. It was just as concerning as it was today. Based on that game I knew they would lose today and hoped I was wrong. I don't remember games 1 & 2 much and would have to rewatch it but I would imagine they were not playing this same style/getting bailed out by big individual efforts

Imagine if management realized it was time to move on last year and gained assets for marner.

Now he's gone for nothing.

I guess we save capspace for McDavid... its the only hope we have

They keep talking about hats and jerseys being thrown on the ice as some sort of dangerous epidemic.

Jfc, it's nine years of stupidity. This game stopped 60 seconds in.

They aren't explosives. What is the most Canadian way an appropriate message can be sent?
I was listening to TNT and the announcer suggested beating the fans who threw them LMFAO.

Nobody asks WHY they're throwing them, after 60 years of abysmal terrible failure like .01% of fans make the tiniest protest and bozos who are non fans start crying.

Same announcer went on to talk about how crazy it is Mitch is becoming a free agent, ROFL. Delusional.

This works if you're McDavid.

If you're Marner and you've improved literally zero parts of your game in 10 years, not your shot, not your speed, not your build, not your compete. Nobody cares.

The anti Tucker/Gilmour/Wendel.
Exactly. What is Marner yelling at the bench going to do?
He’s lost 9 years with the rest of them. His voice means nothing. He has no special insight to winning do or die NHL playoff games.
Then you go out next shift and turn it over right away. Fortunately the goal didn’t count. Score a goal or fight someone if you want me listen.

As it has always been for this team, it is not that they lose, but how. A hard fought, Game 7 loss against the Panthers after dispatching the Sens would be a moderate success. But this was not hard fought: They blew a 2-0 series lead and got blown out in 3 of the remaining 5.

The right decision now is a total and complete rebuild. That's not just a knee-jerk reaction to this travesty, although I can't say that I want to see even Matthews back next year at the moment. Maybe that feeling will change as the summer goes on. But just look at our roster and ages of key players. We only had another 2-3 years on our Cup window anyways. Is Tanev going to get better turning 36? Is Tavares going to get better turning 35? Nylander turns 30 next season.

You can certainly tinker and that's what I assume they'll do. Rogers just paid $5B to purchase MLSE and billions more to purchase TV rights. I doubt they'll want another half-decade rebuild. So someone like Boeser will be signed to replace Mitch, Cowan will slot in, maybe Matthews will even be healthy for once, and heck maybe they'll go on a run.

Time's ticking fast, though. We have a lot of valuable players right now but the likelihood of a Cup run is shrinking. Rebuilding before a competitive window closes means giving up while the team can still theoretically win. It's risky. But is it more risky than waiting another two-three years, waiting until Matthews is 30yo and walks to FA like Mitch, waiting until the quality depth and D age out?

Why is no one blaming the system and the coaching? Please explain to me how this was any different than the Babcock era where our only breakout was stretch passes and rush plays? How is it that Florida breaks out the puck as a unit and cycles the puck with a structure but the Leafs can only possess the puck on the rush? How can you not expect to get out chanced and out shot badly?
our top forwards have no balls. we lost every single puck battle on the boards. they also can’t sustain 4seconds of o-zone time.

It starts from the top. Last year, their statement was "we aren't here to sell jerseys". Fan reaction in this series was to toss the jersey. The message was clear, fan didn't even want your jersey.

Shanahan must go. There's zero reason that they keep him.

#16, don't feel bad on you, you already got a luxury paycheck from Kyle. No matter how you "love" being here, you hadn't have one very successful playoff performance and you will never want to sign for 8 years with a discount and damn no to waive your contract to get traded.

Marner's legacy is not only that of a loser and entitled greedy little man but also of a guy who screwed teh Leafs' future by blocking the Rantanen trade

will never forgive how terrible marner was to the Leafs org and fans. NEVER!

Maybe we can trace all that back to a certain head coach in 2016?

All the leaf players on the bench at that moment thought about this:

Truthfully this probably motivated them less... the player who refused to talk contract, refused to go to dirty areas, refused to waive for Rantanen, a player who has just 2 shots in the last 5 games and made the brutal spin orama no look backhand giveaway in game 5. Most selfish player in the league, should have torn that A off him right then and there.

Seeya Mitch!

Reilly still making excuses

Him, marner and Tavares all gotta go

Drop the cup expectations and retool without Shanahan

Jesus f***ing christ these guys are so tone deaf.

Matthews and marner calling out their teammates for not being on the same page and being passengers??? Seriously?? These 2? The biggest passengers in the 9 playoff years.

Take some f***ing accountability. Just say, I should have been better. But nope. Unbelievable.
Thank God Marner is 100% gone for sure.

Glassews 100% needs to go too.
