Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

Part of the season were fun but as soon it went to 7 we all knew what was likely going to happen. This core has made me much less invested in hockey these past few years which is probably a good thing. I usually just have it on my phone while playing the PS5 with the boys.

In the end many of the posters here were correct just like they were several years ago: they won't win it all with the money invested in the current core. These guys just don't have it as a group. I look forward to seeing a new look, though I don't think changes will be - or need to be - as drastic as some of us want.

Let Mitch walk and sign a couple wingers for the same price. The center market is thin but unless he wants to be paid like a third liner, JT needs to see the door too. He flames out come playoffs. For the first time ever I'm also on board in trying to unload Rielly. He's out of shape and makes more stupid decisions than anyone. The defence is old and will need to be rebuilt sooner than later anyways.

They likely take a step back next year. I'm waiting for the announcement that Matthews is getting surgery.

Maybe if the Oilers win the cup a certain someone decides to come in a year.

Another no show by the top players and total lack of effort, grit, heart, whatever you want to call it.

There really can't be any excuse not to tear a good portion of this down and try something else.. although it will be very hard since they are already committed to a bunch of losers and have so few picks.

Sharks fan coming in peace, do you guys actually think there will be changes this off-season?

I thought there was going to be changes two seasons ago when Dubas alluded to changes, but then Shanahan booted him. MLSE doesn't seem like the kind of management to "relieve" Shanahan of his duties.
It's 50/50.

There could be changes because this experiment obviously should've ended 5 years ago.

But it's Toronto and we're cosmically cursed, so we could also extend Tavares/Marner/Shanahan and none of us fans would even be surprised.

Leafs Law: What's the stupidest/worst thing that can happen? Count on that happening

We all knew it was going to end this way. Chapter closed for this group of players

I hope they gut the team and try to start fresh. Remove the losing culture from the room
Yep, I expected this showing in Game Six but as usual they tease us all for maximum suffering.

I've accepted that this team won't win a Cup in my lifetime. Corporate ownership in Canada has ruined Toronto and to a lesser extent Montreal. Leafs fans are mistreated the most lol

There's something weird about the locker room vibes with this team. I'm sure it will come out years later that xyz didn't like abc. I wouldn't be surprised if its similar to the vancouver situation.

I also feel like matthews shouldn't have the C. That would be a big statement.

The scary part is that six of these losses have five of the same players on. For a team more than 100 years old.

I gaslit myself the least this year though they did a good number on me with their solid play down the stretch.

This forward group doesn't have the pride when it matters, afraid of their own shadow. The ying while Florida was the yang.

Machand for a decade single-handedly exposed the Leafs ownership group. The changes needed to be made after 2021 loss to Montreal but I suppose some people in Leafs management had to keep their job by recycling the same false hope.

There goes 60% of the NHL fanbase and viewership. Do the Leafs get a different outcome of Stolarz isn't hit by a player in the first game?

Brad had better take a sober look at what he has and REALLY understand the trajectory. It might be wise to accept a single year downturn to recoup cap space. Target different players for 2026 and then 2027. Target the precise players you want to try and form a forward group in front of this D, though they may not age perfectly.

If Matthews is injured, is it fixable with surgery? If not, it will be an expensive couple of years for this franchise.

Out: Marner, Tavares (unless in a very friendly deal and a drop down to a 3rd line role), Holmberg. Try to trade Domi for the cap space and upgrade? Can they convince Reilly to waive his no-move clause?

Try to keep Patches and tell him he will be a fixture on the team. Try and keep Lorentz and maintain that 4th line.

McMann will get a shot to stick. Robertson is a serviceable forward though I suspect Brad may try to replace him as a regular.

Ultimately, when the big chips are down the same players don't perform and it is unsustainable. They need to bring in strong personalities like Patches. It isn't just about play, it is about supreme confidence and dedication to play in the league.

This is ridiculous. The guy is 36 years old and made of glass.

If we have to hook our wagon to a guy like him, we're sunk before we've started.

I do feel Tavares was really rocked in that game against Ottawa and was never the same. Not even the same player from what I saw. Probably post concussion issues.

He was powerful and dominant with the puck. He was barely noticeable after that

Well, this sucks, but I'm used to it by now. You can only get incensed so many times.

It was nice to beat OTT, but it looks TOR isn't quite good enough to beat a top contender.

Changes are needed and will be made. It should be an interesting summer.

I do have to add that while the Leafs sucked in the last two games at home, the officiating in this series was terrible. What purpose did the referees serve tonight? To call that one too many men penalty? TOR would have lost anyway, but it's an absolute joke FLA had zero penalties tonight. They absolutely did things they could have been penalized for if a consistent officiating standard had been enforced.

Let's go, Hurricanes (and then hopefully Oilers).

High five to McMann, Jarnkrok, Domi.

God damn this fckign team.

When Pacioretty and Domi are your two best players in the series...thats a problem. Its also not losing...its how. The lack of effort, the lack of pushback and the lack of heart. If MLSE had any balls they'd refund 18000 tickets tonight for the shit they put out for the fans.

f*** them all.
