Losing Nichushkin and Landeskog is a big blow but they can still win the cup again. They have two of the best players in the world with MacK and Makar. You don’t give up on that.

They're lucky they came back in game 1 to not get swept, and they're super lucky they won a cup to not be completely waste the potential of Makar+MacKinnon as they only had a 1 year window. Landeskog is done and Nuke is most likely done in Colorado.

If they fire Sakic, maybe MacFarland or someone can work a miracle but most likely they'll languish as a 1st or 2nd round exit for a while.

With their top two players among the league's best and still in their 20s, there's absolutely no way they don't continue to try for the cup. There's lot of work to do, but alot of teams would also love to be in that position.

You can go decades without ever finding a top two like that again, even if you tanked them all, and they still have other decent peices as well with or without landeskog or nuke.

Depth didn't do them in. Makar MacGinnon and Rantanen were minus players. Out played by a guy who was bought out last summer (Duchene) and two old timers in Benn and Seguin.

Second line tilted the ice vs Winnipeg. If they didn't have a solid middle 6 they're out in the first round.

Depth guys needed to be trusted more. Third line Colton and Wood needed more ice time.

MacGinnon and Rantanen were trash. Makar better offensively and drove the bus from the blue line which is a step up from the regular season. But wasn't interested in playing defense.

When your team is built around 3 superstars and 2 of the 3 were garbage at any given time (Makar and Rantanen useless during regular season then MacGinnon and Rantanen useless during playoffs). You lose.

Like every other team going into the offseason Colorado’s GM has questions to answer and evaluations to be made. If the cap if rising by $5mil then it should leave the Avs with some room to dip into the FA market to fill out their bottom 6 and bottom pairing.

It’s unknown if Landeskog will ever return his game to its previous form after undergoing a knee cartilage transplant and Nichushkin won’t even be eligible to be reinstated until mid November at the earliest.

Could the Avs make another run in a season or two, perhaps but most likely not with Landy or Nuke on the roster. I see a slight retool with the Avs roster if they want to stay competitive, if not it’s just waiting to see what they have left in Landy and Nuke to determine future roster decisions.

Line 1 LW Lehkonen C MacKinnon RW Rantanen
Line 2 LW Landeskog ? C Mittelstadt RW Nichushkin ?
Line 3 LW ? C ? RW Kovalenko
Line 4 LW Wood C Colton RW O’Connor

1st Pair LD Toews RD Makar
2nd Pair LD Girard RD Manson
3rd Pair LD ? RD Malinski

Starter: Georgiev
Backup: Annunen ?

Scratches:
C Wagner
RW Foudy
7th Defensemen ?
8th Defensemen ?

Dead and in dire need of a re-tool. Need to trade Rants while they can and pay someone to eat Nuke’s contract.

Landy will determine whether the Avs will rise again or will erode into obscurity.

The problem with Mack and Makar is that the Avs will never be able to properly rebuild or tank while they are breathing…

Yeah. Trade Rantanen, and tank with Makar and MacKinnon.

That way, in seven or eight years, you might have three players 80% as good as them.

go back to your Xbox.

Got bounced by Dallas and the series wasn't even close. Rantanen didn't show up. Nichuskin MIA. Landeskog still in rehabilitation. Team couldn't keep up defensively and speed neutralized.
It's not a case of the Avs being bad it's just that Dallas is so good from top to bottom of their lineup.

The Avs have some good peices soming as well.

Any team that signs Drouin is basically capitulating.

Anyone who goes to Montreal ends up ruining their career. Terrible team, can't even something as easy as an 80 point scorer in over a decade

Don't know what's worse for Canada the Leafs being a playoff embarrassment or the Canadiens being just an embarrassment.

Makar isn’t as good as people think he is. He racked up so many points vs a weak Nashville team in 2022

Wasn’t even a bad series. Oettinger was phenomenal.

Dallas Colorado was always going to be tight. An extra bounce or two in our direction and we have a game 7 tomorrow. If we’d been smoked by Winnipeg this might make sense.

You'd be a fool to think they're cooked. It's so hard to win in today's league, all it takes is a few bounces or a few key injuries and it can 100% swing a series.

They've still got the horses to win it all, just maybe not as easily as a couple years ago.

A lot of people were writing off the Penguins in the mid-2010s.

Colorado has a young and talented enough core to win the Cup again, and their captain's returning next year. Makar's 25 FFS. This isn't even close to burn it down territory.

Makar, Mac and Rantanen are an incredible group of future hall of famers in their prime. Until they're old or traded the Av's will always be in the conversation for the cup.

Mack/Makar/Rantanen/Toews is a hell of a core. Will be very easy to retool around that.

Nichuskin situation and losing Landy unexpectedly (I feel like he's done but hope I'm wrong) are huge blows to this core but on the flip side if they can void Val's deal and LTIR Landy they are rolling in cap space.

People can laugh all they want I really think they should go and get Crosby and I think it is very much doable.

Crosby doesn't want to finish his career with 4-5 consecutive years out of the playoffs. He's already missed it two straight and the Pens aren't exactly a team on the rise. If he can chase cups instead of bottom feed for the next 2-3 years I'm sure he'll reevaluate his dedicated to being a one team player.

Do they want Mittelstadt back? If so, at what price point do they say no?

I didn't even notice him play to be honest.
