GDT: End of season media availability - Today

It would be the same demeanor if it was the Leafs treating him as a castaway through the year, and that being a bit upsetting no? Who knows..

It's funny how much prep there was across all players for answering questions about the pressure of playing in Toronto. It's fine, same everywhere, pressure comes from the room.
I actually had no issue with the way they handled the pressure question.

It was entirely generated by the Panthers, and the media, and was always going to be a hot topic - and I thought, to be completely fair to them, that not a single one of them used it as an excuse or factor at all.

We know that's not true andit absolutely is a factor, but they didn't add any weight to it

I'm guessing his stat line in Toronto would look something like:

GP G A P
2 0 1 1

Plays 2 games, suspended the rest of the series as Leafs lose in 7.

Sam Bennett in Toronto would never work, whoever said it on twitter the other day was dead bang on - he'd be suspended every week.
Or that element of his game would simply disappear. He would start trying to be a skill player.

Trying to iron out the messaging around Shanahan being fired and the President of Hockey Ops role being blown up?

Luke Fox suggested yesterday that given the new ownership, more widespread changes might be coming - and apparently Ted Rogers was FURIOUS at SBA towards the end of game 7.

The longer the wait, the less genuine and more prepared/PR coached it will feel.

It's definitely probably a little both. Make changes, prepare the PR speech for the Friday, and the very open ended search to replace those people that will take way too much time and they will not be ready for insanely important areas of the off-season...

can't wait

Which could actually be a blessing in disguise.

Maybe a topic for another thread - but my biggest fear is they fall into all this cap space via their pending UFAs, and then light it all on fire through a very weak free agency pool this summer, instead of holding onto it and looking into free agency 2026. Even if you can't land the big fish next summer, there's still plenty more talent that could reach that open market.

The Leafs and their inability to control spending on free agents and never accruing cap space is a great enemy.

We don't know when management is speaking, but whenever they do, I will try my best to provide live updates of their availability - assuming the stream quality isn't as pathetic as it was for the player's avails.
Your dedication to keeping us informed is greatly appreciated, hopefully Sportsnet can fix their ineptitude, you’d almost think that was done on purpose……..

It pains me to say it, but I really believe the biggest anchor right now is Morgan Rielly. We've seen the team excel with him out of the lineup. He's a team worst -8 on the season when McCabe and Tanev are +20 to 30. We had trouble moving the puck but he's supposed to be our best puck mover.

It's not the only change that is needed, but I see it as the biggest priority. Marner probably won't sign, but I would sign him. Bitch at me as you wish losing him is a big step back for us. I would divorce him from Matthews though. We need more balanced scoring - that is one thing Babcock always had right. Ditch the bottom 6 guys that aren't making a difference - Kampf, Jarnkrok, etc. Need guys with more edge/physicality there, and more speed.
