GDT: End of season media availability - Pelley speaking Friday at 1PM EST

BUMPING THIS FOR ANYONE who may have missed Pelley's Media Avail today.

He's now doing breakout scrums, but unless there's any telling answers to come out of it, I'm not going to be summarizing - more of the same is my guess.
Pelley sure makes it sound like run it back is a serious possibility.

Regarding Fla vs Carolina. Carolina is a very well coached team... but their roster is not high quality. I think I read that Carolina has lost 14 straight conference final games?

Sure we took Panthers to 7, but if we played 5 more games, we probably are dusted in 4 out of 5 of those gamea. Panthers might have expected Leafs from two years ago...and started slow..but they adjusted and then worked us in embarrassing fashion.

This core always finds a way to lose, whether we are underdogs or favorites. They are not figuring it out slowly... its the same result over and over and over. These guys are all aging, Rielly, Tanev, OEL...the 3 other core players are a couple years from the end of their primes. Lets not spend Matthews entire prime with this core.

Move the $%$# on.

Focus our cap space on McDavid as a UFA next year.

I think @rumman is correct.
Wouldn’t you make sure your GM is gonna be available before you set up a press conference?
Sounds to me like it was the perfect day to have it. Important questions about the team couldn’t be answered because BT wasn’t there. And he made sure he told the media that it was his daughter’s graduation day. How could Brad miss that?
He said the press conference was planned on a whim. I dunno. To me it seems like it was actually well planned to avoid all the hard questions.
Maybe MLSE wanted Shanahan gone before he made any deals. It is a possibility

Good one.
Guessing these other three will be in a little higher demand

I don’t think we’re likely to get all three especially since the ignominious meltdown on home ice, but 2 would be a real win especially if it hurts Florida. A lot of this Atlantic Division arms race is also the rate of decline relative to others and taking a chunk out of Florida directly is a good idea.

it honestly seemed to me like they want to keep JT and Marner.

They want to let time pass, to make people forget about this again, and sign both lol

I have that feeling too. If you never dismantle the core the dream is never quite dead.

I'd suggest chilling, until we actually know things, instead of having anxiety over speculation. I mean, if they truly run it back, bash the hell out of them... but judge on what happens, not what might, or might not.
Exactly.

Berube answered pretty much exactly how he needed to. You have to support your players in the press.

Not surprised. When was the last time a Division winner let their highest scorer, who plays in all situations go without trying to retain him?

MM doesn't make sense for Toronto. What may make sense to both parties is a signing of 8 x 13.25m and a trade to low tax state with 1.25m retained in order to get us some good return in the way of picks or prospects.

I am ok with that. He is a playoff Houdini though

Let us not forget Pelley was responsible for the terrible deal that Rogers made for the NHL Broadcasts. He also put the team in place and oversaw the production that absolutely destroyed Hockey Night in Canada. To me he's a big talker that always says what the old farts want to hear. Most media questions were softballs and he sidestepped them without giving concrete answers. My question is, what qualifications does he have to lead this franchise out of the wilderness? From what I see, it is highly unimpressive.

Great question!

The answer is, he has zero qualifications.

He lucked into senior management at TSN because they wanted to take him from Fox Sports (he was just a Producer), which catapulted his entire career.

Most CEO's are complete idiots.
They just loving hearing themselves talk in meetings.
That's all they do.

3 hour breakfast meeting
3 hour lunch meeting
3 hour end of day meeting
3 hour miscellaneous Golf meeting (Weather permitted)

God I'm having PTSD from working in the Financial Institution.

Once you reached DVP you are golden.
It only gets easier higher up you go.

100% spot on.

Keith Pelley is a brilliant hockey mind and hockey visionary.

What could go wrong?

:sarcasm:
Why would anyone expect the CEO of a multi billion dollar company have a hockey background? Seems to be a pretty silly expectation

This forum would be a ghost town if we waited for confirmation on what might happen, I’m hear to disguss what’s happened and what might happen sorry if that annoys you, maybe pass by my posts going forward?

They want Fla to win...so they can once again say they JUST BARELY lost to Stanley Cup winners as an excuse.

Yea... Fla was a president trophy winner and lost to Tampa, the team who went to the Finals..yet they immediately made changes and acquired Tkatchuk... despite it being their first year in the postsdason with that core.

Now they have won the cup and are on theor way to their 3rd consecutive finals.

When was the last time a division winner lost Game 7 at home to a score of 6-1?

When was the last time a team with THREE or FOUR 10mil plus players play in the 3rd round?

Guess there will be a first for everything.
