Emelin: when will he return?

Not Lucic's fault at all. The only people who think lucic did that on purpose are butt hurt habs fans. Nobody with reason can hate lucic anymore. The guy plays the game clean and mean. He's respectful off the ice too. He matured a lot over the years and deserves the credit for it.

Class act through and through. Also scary as **** on the ice.

Respectful :shakehead - the Miller hit ;)

Clean? I don't blame the Emelin thing on him. Yes, he stuck his leg out, but I think it's a pretty reasonable reaction when you look up at the last second and realise 220lbs of russian hatred is coming right at you.

But clean? The guy is known for jumping people after the whistle. He ran right through miller when he really didn't have to. I've seen him jump way up on hits before.

Let's be real here, he's done a lot of dirty stuff.

I don't think so. The Miller hit was dirty, but you guys are overreacting hard. He's not a dirty player. Jumping people after the whistle isn't dirty unless he knocks them out without a fair fight. It's an intimidation tactic that surely works and that this team seems to lack.

S'ok though, he's done a lot of damage to your team. I get it.

I don't think Lucic's malicious. He's more like a really big bowling ball, only not as smart.

I watch every B's game and he's not malicious... To the guy who said on page 1 of this thread that Lucic put his knee out purposely to injure him, that's a fallacy IMO. Watch how fast the play happens...: PS, sorry for the homer jack homer edwards announcer lol.

Yeah as far as I can tell Lucic didn't do that on purpose at all but at least I feel a little better that Lucic just didn't purely outmuscle him.

Lucic's knee (accidentally) definitely hits Emelin's knee before his torso comes in contact with him. On the flip side, I hope Emelin's knee heals properly.

Me too, I'm never a fan of anybody getting injured(maybe Cooke but..) I just wanted to point out how fast the play happened and you'd have to be Shaolin monk to purposely place your knee there to intent to injure in that situation.

Okay, so Emelin is UFA after this season. In an ideal world we would have seen him play the full year last year and maybe that would have been enough to figure out what kind of player he is and present him with a contract offer, or see him play a couple months this year and then hit him with a long term deal. Now, not only did we not see him for the full season last year but he will miss a couple of months of this season due to injury. So you have the added question of what he will be like on his return, which wont be an accurate reflection of his ability due to him being rusty and everybody else being in mid-season form.

The longer we wait to work out a contract the more tempted Emelin might be to test the UFA market. Personally I take the view that though he does have his defensive lapses he has a rare hitting ability ala Scott Stevens that does affect how opposing players play the game, he can impact a game. Since he will be rusty on his return I don't know what we will achieve by waiting to see him play a bunch of games. Good defensive UFA D-men make between $3.5M ( Grossman ) and top out at $4.5M ( Volchenkov ), generally speaking. I would offer him up a 5 year deal at $3.75M-$4.0M a season if the medical reports are giving him the all clear. We need to sign this guy and Id rather take the risk of his injury still being a problem than risk him testing the market.

Good overview. The Emelin situation is difficult for sure. I see him as one of our top three defencemen. Would love if we locked him up before he tests the UFA market BUT Habs mgmt are be sticking their necks out if they sign another Russian with a questionable knee.

Actually I heard from someone (yeah weak but true and this person is somewhat connected) that it was more than a torn ligament. Has anyone heard more details on the injury?

Actually the more I watch it I really don't know. I still don't think Lucic's intent was malicious but he does actually seem to protect himself with his knee.

It seems more cowardly than malicious. It makes more sense now that I see that Emelin's knee is what gets hit first because as strong as Lucic is, Emelin doesn't bounce off anyone.

F#$#@$ Lucic.

Pittsburgh also stuck out their necks for a Russian with a questionable knee and a Nova Scotian with a questionable head. Think they regret it?

You can't negotiate based on what if. Emelin's knee will be no worse than Malkin's or Galchenyuk's if he heals properly.

I think as long as the healing is on track, I would sign him for 4-5 years at around 3.5-3.8/year cap hit. That would be very good value at this point.

I deally MB can extend Markov Diaz and Emelin at a good rate, then once Beaulieu Tinordi and co are ready you have some trade options, there are always teams looking fod help on defense.

No surprise but I give the benefit of doubt to the Hab over a broon. So yeah F#$#@$ Lucic the dirty cur.

Yeah the thing is I heard maybe there was more to the injury. Maybe someone knows exactly what got operated on at hospital.

Meniscus probably got moved out of position from under the knee cap. That's fairly common.

It sickens me that a fellow Hab fan would call Lucy a class act and respectful off the ice? Perhaps you missed it went he tried to beat up his gf. Sounds respectful to me. Or when he does the pumping his arms after winning a fight, that's always a classy move. :shakehead

well if a boston fan says so it must be true. Next I'll be hearing that leaf fans in the off-season don't think their team is the greatest at everything. :sarcasm: I guess you also believe that Chara didn't mean to try and injure Pacioretty when he tried to take his head off.

The Chara hit looked intentional but when you watch the clip of Emelin getting injured it happens so fast and Lucic sees him at the last second it definitely wasn't intentional. Lucic didn't beat up his girlfriend either even she said it was overblown and it was a shouting match over her getting out of a cab with no shoes on and he was demanding she put her shoes on...

Sorry but Lucic lifted his knee for the hit. No player should do that. It's extremely dangerous. That's all on Lucic.. it's as bad as Marchand when he bends down at knee level when he's about to get hit.

As for Komisarek, well yeah Mike can't fight so that's not Lucic's problem.

Re-watch the play and what Lucic was doing before Emelin came in. There was nothing dirty about what happened and no knee was intentionally stuck out.

It's a joke to even argue that. Everyone here dislikes the Bruins and that's fine, but don't let hatred cloud your judgement. The injury came from a high-end collision between two big boys at a bad time.

To be fair, Bruinswillwin seems like a level headed fan and I have no qualms with him at all.

That being said, Lucic isn't exactly a class act. I don't hate him hate him but he's hardly Mr. Clean out there.

Never really watched the vid before because I just couldn't stomach seeing Emelin 'owned' like that but seeing it now, Lucic had his knee up to brace himself. I'm pretty convinced of that now.

I was at the game when Emelin got hurt and I agree it was bad luck, not anything intentional. I'm not a fan of Lucic's style, but I'd call him reckless more than dirty.

I heard there was more to his police incident and subsequent interaction with the officer ("Do you know who I am???") but without facts it's all just gossip.

Don't think it was the Lucic fight that turned Komo into *********.

I'm pretty sure that's the main reason. Prior to that everyone was saying he should be our next captain and how good he was defensively. He was just never the same person after the incident.

Assault and threats against women is a matter that should not be taken lightly. The police were called by bystanders who said they heard a slap. "One witness said she observed Lucic holding Carnegie’s purse in one hand and one of her shoes in the other, and then watched as he threw both items at her while she was on the ground."

And yeah he pulled the "do you know who I am?" crap with police which also makes him a jerk.

Sorry but if you are intent on defending Lucic maybe do so on your board?

I re-watched it a bunch of times and I really think he did lift his knee up. I can't see his knee being that high on a traditional skating stride.

Didn't look like it was malicious more like 'oh s#%$' and he put his arms up along with his knee to brace himself for contact. It was dangerous what he did, as we can see, but it just looked like instinct more than 'here's a plum chance to injure someone.'

If Lucic had enough time to put his arms up to hit Emelin then he definitely had enough time to put his knee up as well.

The hate for Milan Lucic is...too DAMN HIGH!

I get hating on other teams players WAY more than the sticking up for other teams players.

I understand being objective but some go out of their way to trash our players while sticking up for players on other teams. That's just weird to me.

CLASSY ??? The entire team are GOONS....IMO they run around trying to injure people......Lucic knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he jumped up and gave Emelin the knee.
