A goalie that pulls off a .920 every year is worth a fortune. The "every year" part is the tricky part, there's only a few of them that do that.
I’d give Vais and Shesterkin over 7There isn't a goalie in the league I'd give over 7M honestly. They all seem to turn out to be a problem eventually in a cap world. Outside of a cap world I think it could go higher.
Yeah, but the Islanders tandem don't do this. Love these guys. It's hard to like the B's sometimes, but you can't help but love that tandem. My favourite tandem in the league ( even more then Tampa and New York Rangers ) is Boston with Ullmark and Swayman. They are realitively cheap, a proven starter and a young reliable goalie that is eager to prove his worth. That’s a dangerous tandem. The islanders have a similar situation aswell
I wonder how much typical market forces play into the salary structures of professional athletes. The next 'elite' goaltender that needs to re-up his contract is going to have his agent start with the most recently highest paid goalie's contract with regards to bargaining; if the GMs all hold firm and don't pay that price for goalies I'd think the NHLPA would have an argument for collusion. Not a great look for elite goalies when arguably only 4 out of 10 are able to justify their elite pay.
GM's won't take heed of this though.
