Post-Game Talk: Eliminated

I know a few ppl here are mocking Messier’s “body language” PowerPoint bullet, but this is kinda what he meant IMO.

Whether it’s fights or scrums or pushing post-whistle, to your point no player seemed to give the extra f**k (except for long lost #55). Which leads us to the faces on the bench late in period #3 today. Basically begging to be made into a meme or seven this off-season.
Oh come on! Don't you know that the posters here know more about how to fix this organization than Messier ever could?

The 10 or so minutes where they decided to show some life made it even worse showing they CAN play hard if they want to.
Too bad Rempe has to play the game as if he looks at somebody wrong he'll be suspended.
For some of these guys, even if they're on the team next year and manage to revitalize themselves I'm going to have a hard time rooting for them.
Can't wait for Kam's 7 year deal.
Blech.

Players didn’t even get mad or frustrated enough to have a scrum or fight anybody for months. An utter disgrace to to the shield and every single one of them should be on the table to be moved this summer. It really doesn’t matter what the perceived skill level of the team is, they need to grow a heart and a real leadership group before we start worrying about where they can win a Cup. Laviolette and Drury both deserve to be fired but there’s not a coach or GM that could’ve gotten this group of cowards to the playoffs
If you want scrums and fights you must miss Goodrow and Trouba. Drury’s moves and rules about players and employees not interacting, and presumed leaks probably pissed Kreider and some others off, resulting in early season woes. Then I suspect the later trades didn’t help things, though they got a late season bounce with J.T. But I presume Lav’s defensive scheme has to be incredibly frustrating to the players because they don’t seem to be able to adapt to it. It’s not a matter of heart. It’s just not working, and I’m sure the “core” is frustrated because the coaching staff remains inflexible.

I personally don’t believe it’s country club for players to try to get the coaches to implement a system that is more team friendly, but what do I know. The players tried and failed to change, resulting in frustration, and the coach knows he failed resulting in frustration to the point that he eventually stopped mandatory practices, and doesn’t even communicate with the players after games. I think there is enough blame to go around, but my perceived order of blame is Drury, coach, players.

The team has never once been interested in attempting to play any semblance of a system. For half a decade they have overpassed on offense and refused to forecheck on any consistent basis. Having a “system” doesn’t matter without the non negotiables.

As for the roster the players have been catered to by coaching and management forever. They get to play with their friends to the detriment of the team (Lindgren/Fox, Mika/Kreider, Kandre/Trouba) and when they made trade additions it was always for the pals of the top guys. As soon as management tried to retake control of things they quit. Claiming that was a product of being frustrated with the system is laughable considering they had no problem playing it to the Presidents trophy a year ago.

The “late season bounce” was like a cat falling off a roof, getting rag dolled by the fire escape and bouncing off a garbage can lid dead

4 of the last 5 starts: .833 or lower. 16 of 60 at .870 or lower. More than a quarter of the games started, their “market setting” goalie didn’t provide NHL backup level play in net.

Kreider going from 39 goals to 26 points.

Zibanejad, Laf, Panarin and Fox to varying lesser degrees. Kakko, Andersson, Kravtsov all busting after being drafted by the prior GM with a horrendous draft record.

We can pile on some other factors, shit on the coach, and claim the GM is more incompetent than Milbury. But no coach is going to look good when ostensibly the best goalie in the NHL turns into the 25th best goalie immediately after signing a mega extension coupled with your 1W losing 70% of his production in a single season. No GM can save a team with a poor leadership group that visibly pouts because their friends got traded due to massive underperformance of their contracts.

I believe Drury is far from done, and while I don’t think he’s the best in the league, I think he is getting way more undue criticism than is deserved. You all said as recently as last season that this team was worse than their record. The storm finally hits, and you all want everyone’s heads on a platter.

Lav is going to (and likely should) take the fall. Some other “key” or previous “core” players will be moved (and you’ll all piss and moan about how we sold them for too cheap), and the team will look very different next season. Win the next two games, push the pick to 13-14, give it over this year, and move on from this leadership group that couldn’t handle the tiniest adversity in a results business.

I agree. Mess said body language. Maybe bad choice of words. What I would have said is "a total lack of intensity ". The expressions on their faces say defeated, no snarl, no pissed off that they are done. Messier also said what is needed is a captain, a strong nucleus and a change of culture. We needed that back in the early 90s too. Fixed that with one trade. Hope that Drury didn't expect JT Miller to fix us this time. He's not that type of player.

That first will be for next year, probably around 22nd when we make the playoffs with a new core with JT leading it when we get rid of the country club losers this offseason. It was never about this season.

We were never going anywhere with loser Mika, kreider, and Panarin this year when they all got butthurt about Goodrow and Trouba.

"loser Mika, Kreider and Panarin", what has JT Miller ever won? dont get your hopes up. trading for a 32 year old player "not for this season" is a new one.

Yea, he’s got 5 years left on his contract and is still going to be a 90 point player for the next couple years likely, so it absolutely was a long term and not just for one season.

There is a reason why Nuck fans didnt want him traded and wanted Petterson gone instead. Guy at least shows some emotion on the ice unlike those 3.

It is the next day, and I feel nothing.

I have a Ducks game tonight to watch who even though are not a good team , Carlsson and Gauthier have been heating up , so got that to distract me. Like to see them end up at .500. Draft ranking is not really important to me unless you are in the bottom 3.

I’m going to watch the last two Rangers games for Sam only. I will order a pizza and consume it in Sam’s honor Thursday night.

Their current coach needs to go, his decisions are just way off base sometimes. But priority is fixing their special teams which have been a disaster.

What do they say about the best laid plans? And I thought I was so smart! NOT!
In October, purchased 2 tickets for tomorrow nights match with Panthers. Feeling better now, but little did I know I'd be sick, along with the fact that this game is NOW inconsequential.
One could say, that the Rangers made me sick. Bet I'm not the only one.

Why not give Brian Leetch the job? What's Mike Richter up to? Jean Ratelle is only 84.

Ok I'm being a bit silly. What about Henrik Lundquist? He's gonna live awhile.

We never talk about any of those guys. Do we hate them or is it because they have absolutely no experience?

Nobody hates Messier. He's simply unqualified to run the team.

How are any of these guys losers? It’s honestly sad af that Mika who was a great Ranger is gonna be remembered negatively just because the team was too dumb to recognize he was insanely overrated. Kreider a loser now too i guess because this lame ass team basically depends on his 34 year old injured sacrum to hold up so they can ever score a goal

Kreids has fully come to terms with the fact that the organization and particularly the GM don’t want him here, as was made clear to him months ago. I’d say there a less than 5% chance that he’s on our roster next season if Drury is still running things.
Agree. The only question is his health and how that might affect either a buyout or trade.
