I’m not surprised tbh. You could see it from the moment he stepped into the NHL that he was a special player. People said for the last few years that he was overrated. And while that was probably true to an extent, you could also see the talent that this kid had and that he’d eventually join the top centers behind McDavid. One of the few bright spots on a dismal season for Canuck fans.

Meh, not too concerned about it. From everything that's been said by him, his agent, and our management, both sides will look to work out a long term extension. Even if he doesn't, unlike some other premier young star players who will be due for an extension or a chance to walk to UFA he's an RFA so we could still move him for a haul and be totally fine.

I think he's been better than Draisaitl this year. Probably the 3rd best C in the league at this very moment behind McD and MacK; but I would give Matthews the nod over him to stave off recency bias (Matthews is probably better in the bigger picture)
