What's going on with Pettersson is completely unprecedented.

Over the last year (Feb 2024 -> Feb 2025) he's scored 65 pts in 95 games including playoffs - a 56pt pace.

Over the last 2 years before that, he scored 210 pts in 164 games - a 105 pt pace.

That's....insane. It's got to be injury related right? His shot velocity and bursts are way way down this year, so that has to be a component. The team has said it's not injury related but, unless he's had a complete mental breakdown, that simply doesn't wash for me.

The team needs to stop saying "he needs to step up" and challenging him with a tough love approach and start trying to figure out what he needs to solve this problem.

Trading him would be a mistake. Far more likely he returns to form at some point than the assets you net in a trade enable you to build a contender. They already have a gaping hole at center with JT gone.

canuck fans are tired of trying to figure out whats wrong, the most logical way is to ride it out, and make sure he has a good off season training, and somehow remember how to play offense instead of just being a F3. We all thought Huberdeau was cooked, but this year he seems to be doing more with less, so there is hope.

i think canucks should sell. his nmc kicks in soon so it's now or never. they gave him a chance to turn it around after miller left and he hasnt been good for the canucks or even in 4 nations tournament

Never seen a downfall from a player like this

100+ points with cap dumps as his linemates
on pace for 100 points again at last years all-star break

then the break happens and he looks like he doesn't want to play hockey
he got his agent making excuses for him
he'll show flashes

but my god his body language is franking TERRIBLE

The talent is there easily, but he is not right mentally

110 points in his first 82 games with Tocchet so it’s not even a coaching/systems thing.

Something is seriously wrong and at this point quite literally nobody knows what’s wrong with him. A whole entire year.

He’s about as slow as Corey Perry and is shooting muffins if he’s even shooting at all.

Either he has a degenerative condition that hinders him for the rest of his career or he’s a serious mental midget and will go 100 games at a time of shitty production. Either way time to cut him loose.

It's a tough spot for the Nucks, but especially tough after they got rid of Miller for scraps.

If they sell Hughes has nothing to work with because you're only selling him to a team that can take on the cap without much concern for the future, i.e a very limited pool for a very limited return.

If they don't sell, you're paying a guy 6+ million dollars more than he is worth who has been terrible for a long time now.

In both cases it would probably make sense for Hughes to leave. Retrospectively they should've waited to see what he and JT did in 4NF and then decided.

Miller+Hughes+11 million is a very solid foundation for any team. Hughes+Petey+8 million is looking like a disaster.

A canucks fan told me Jake Virtanen would be better than Cam Neely.

Another canucks fan told me Elias Pettersson would be better than Zetterberg.

Funny how this works out.

From the snippets we have gotten here and there it certainly appears that Miller's frustrations with Petterson spilled over and caused him to cross multiple lines to the point of no return for him.

Can't blame Miller for wanting to win.

Looks like it’s time to go scorched earth, but realistically what can VAN even get for this guy at his caphit? They’ll take another bath like they did on Miller

I certainly don't blame Miller at all, he just crossed lines where his conduct started effecting his teammates as opposed to just him and Petey.

In my opinion Pettersson has single handedly cost the Canucks two years of potentially contending at minimum. He may also cost the Canucks their greatest player of all time in Hughes if he doesn't figure it out fast.

I can't speak positively about a lowlife like Virtanen, but Pettersson at his peak has definitely shown a Datsyukian potential.

Miller's problem is with everyone from on ice personnel to video coaches if you really follow the snippets.

If Petey doesn't show signs of improvement before the end of the year, you deal him before his NMC kicks in.

Of course, the other issue could be that Tocchet's system doesn't work around Petey's skillset. The common factor in Petey's decline is Tocchet.

At this point, who knows. At some point, though, Rutherford will need to remove himself from the media and let Allvin be the face of the front office while the season is going on.

We literally saw a downfall like this 3 years ago when Huberdeau got traded to Calgary.

he wants to win. no one in vancouver is holding the star players accountable. how is quinn going to call out pettersson for not putting in the effort on the ice when quinn looks like he's never set foot in a gym before.

curious, you think he can win a Norris and is enroute to another without going to the gym?? EP definitely didnt come into the year prepared enough, but please dont drag their captain into it also.

he's really good but what would he be if he could put on more muscle? could be the best dman since lidstrom if he put serious effort into training.
