Value of: Elias Pettersson C

How far Pettersson has fallen that Sabres fans won't even accept a 1 for 1 swap with Thompson who is older, worse defensively and never been considered as good as Pettersson (until this season).

Really telling.
No chance the Sabres trade a star C and fan favorite for the sullen problem child EP has turned into.

Best thing the canucks can do is hope EP takes this offseason seriously and comes back in the fall with something to prove.

At least 4 games isn’t exactly what I would consider “brutal news” but I guess that’s what gets the clicks…
So could be the rest of the season too though right?

The guy took a faceoff and went of limping lol.

Yeah, or it could also be the rest of his career, I would consider both of those “brutal”, that’s not what the news is though

Ok you want to keep this going I will bite.

Whats the injury? How do you know how long he will be out?

I always love when habs fans go to their "used car salesman"-mode. If any other fans tried to sell them this dogshit, they'd call it out too.
He offered 3 first round picks and two prospects

That seems a bit harsh to say, even to Boub (who has toned his homerism down to admirable levels)

The fake sports news sites, which are largely AI written are now using these horrendous titling models that always include numbers. If it isnt 'out 4 games' it is '11.6M player has this happen to them'

They focus on contract value because when people see something like 100M player drama/news they click

Petey needs to get out of Canada and find a smaller market team to take the preassure off. Start enjoying hockey again. Hes misserable.

Maybe if he didn't phone it in game after game and actually lived up to his contract he wouldn't be miserable.

Because he's still a huge part of the problem and if were cauterizing the wound I wanna see them do it completely.

Plus the Canucks just got out of one NMC I want to make sure they avoid Petey's in July too.

Hughes is one of the best players in the league and has looked amazing since coming back from injury.

Demko has looked solid since coming back from injury.

Petey is hurt but had a six game point streak (9 points) before the game he got hurt in.

Canucks just need to get healthy before next year, they don’t need to tear it down.

Have some of you guys seen the market for centres this off-season?

Trust me, if the Canucks decided to trade him, they would get a haul.

Lots of teams would be willing to go for it and gamble

On one hand your right there is zero centers available especially ones of Ep40 potential calibre. I could see a team saying this is their chance at a player that doesnt become available, contract be damned.

On the other hand that contract is silly even compared to what July1 will bring. I'll build Frankie a statue if he ate the 10m bonus to get max value so a team gets Ep40 for 4.5m cash his first year. But then Ep40 has to waive that NMC July1 at noon so he gets to pick or veto his Buffalo type.

If it were a fire sale type of trade, Montréal would be all over this IMO

I'd do Hage (our second best forward prospect behind Demidov) + Mailloux (our second best defenseman prospect behind Reinbacher) + 2 or 3 first rounds picks

Hage will easily be a 2nd line center, at the very least
Mailloux is a tough S.O.B. with great offensive prowess but he has a bit to learn on the defensive side of things

In a case of a "re-tooling", where Vancouver still tries to compete but with new players, we have sadly nothing to trade

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Demidov - EP40 - Laine

Is a f***ing sexy top 6 if you ask me, and could be put against anything in the league
No way we pay that much. Pettersson not worth his contract. Has little heart. You can't win in playoffs build on players like him.

JFC no! Last thing Montreal needs is a pouty player who goes into long funks and can't handle the media. He'd get eaten alive in Montreal. Not to mention your offer is a MASSIVE overpay once you factor his albatross of a contract in

If Laine can have a career in Montréal, so does EP40

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Demidov - EP40 - Laine

is stacked!!!

Laine doesn't make $11.6m a year for another 7 years. Montreal also got paid to take him. You want to back up a dump truck of assets to Vancouver to get the pouty heartless wonder

I think the most you could get for him would be a 1st from a lower tier team trying to break into the playoffs and a B prospect, definitely no haul.

Most good prospects project to be better than 50 point players making 11 million which is what EP is right now, so why trade them for him? And most contenders can't throw a ton of picks/prospects because you can't have a 50 point player potentially making 11 million.

The market for him is small, the Canucks have zero leverage and ultimately they have to decide how much the cap space is worth for them.

Would still take him, give him a shot
I feel like Montréal would be a better environment for him to thrive too
