Player Discussion Elias Lindholm

And he started the season injured, which caused him to miss most (was it all, it was so long ago) of preseason, and then played limited by injuries for months

I think the end of the year gives you some real hope that he and Pasta and play together, and if they do it can be a legitimate first line, which will mean he would score 60+ points
Most likely the front office brass asked Sacco to throw Lindholm a bone with Pasta and Geekie for the last 7 games of the season so he wouldn't end up with 13 goals and 26 assists.
We will see if there is any hope him sticking with Pasta come October.

No matter how you slice it, Lindholm best case is one of the worst #1C in hockey and worse than 2023-24 Coyle\Zacha.

So the question becomes, is he strictly a placeholder for an attempt to lure Eichel here after next year?

Should Boston see if they can sign Tavares on a 2-3 year deal and see what shakes out after its up instead?

Lindholm's production, month by month...

Oct 6 points in 11 games
Nov 7 points in 14
Dec 6 points in 14
Jan 8 points in 14
Feb 4 points in 7
Mar 7 points in 14
Apr 9 points in 8

He was basically a 40 point player in every month except April. From October to the end of March, he had a total of 38 points in 74 games (a 42 point pace).

I bring this up because I've seen people say he was 'basically a 50 point player from January on..." but that's not really true. He was the exact same player in March as he was in October, 7 points in 14 games.

he's this year's version of DeBrusk being a 30 goal scorer

seriously tho, I expect him to put up 70ish points if he plays with Pasta the full year and stays healthy

realistically I think he'll hit around 60 with line up movement and missed games

I’ve watched him quite a bit throughout his career. He didn’t even look like the same person this season.

I’m encouraged by how he finished, I’m hoping he can get fully healthy during the offseason and really come out strong next season.

I still believe he can be a good player for us, but I would be a liar if I said I wasn’t disappoint in him this year

The good news is back injuries always go away and don't get worse in your 30s.
I blame Sweeney.
If he had signed him to less money with no signing bonus, Lindholm could have avoided the back injury.
He must have injured himself digging up a hole in his cellar overnight after getting paid the signing bonus.
The bad news is his contract has a signing bonus every year.
Lindholm could end up with a chronic back problem.

"Don Sweeney can never fail, he can only be failed."

Lindholm was a much better player after the four nations tournament.
Maybe playing with the best of his countrymen invigorated him.
Pairing him again with Pastrnak certainly did not hurt as Pastrnak's all world play made everyone he was on a line with better.
Too early to say this is a totally bad contract after one adjustment year playing on a dysfunctional team.
Granted he didn't have the greatest year to start, but finished strong.
I will give this year a 'push' - I want to see how things progress next season.

Lindholm is a good hockey player. No doubt
But let's be honest, him as the 1C center, Boston finished last!!!!

He played huge PP1 unit minutes, had a ton of time with either 88 or 63 and closes the season with a -4 and 47 pts total!!!

That could be OK IMO for a young premier of 18, 19 or even 20 years starting in the league. But EL is 30, makes what 7,75M, already had injury problem and now maybe back issu.

He will have to play huge and impactful game on a long stretch for me to buy in.

The back issue explains why his skating looked slow and laboured at times, especially during the 1st half of the season. Really lacked jump in his step. Hopefully this issue doesn't reoccur or linger into next year's camp and season.

Any center can look fantastic with the right wingers. EL will be a different player next season with time off to heal. I really like this player and new by his skating and shooting that he was suffering from some sort of injury since he was having trouble keeping up with play and his shot didn't have the usual zip. I'm hoping for big things for him next season.

1) He had 63 and 88 on his wing for most of the season. Played top PP minutes. 47 points. IMO a great center is the line cornerstone for some exception. IMO, he had a bad season and that is it.
2) It is all to be seen. For now it is speculation. He played 26, 49 and 56 games in the last 3 out of 6 seasons.
3) You can't stop a heart from loving

The last 6 years he has played 70, 56, 82, 80, 75, 82. In his 11 full seasons in the NHL he has averaged 77 games a season

He had 44 points in the previous season so in terms of production he has improved this season.

The back injury screwed it up but I guarantee you if healthy next year Lindholm will give you better production than Zacha and better 2 way play if he's playing with Pastrnak. To only score 14 goals and 47 points playing like 80-90% of the season with a duo that scored 76 goals and 163 points is impressive in a bad way. I could easily see Lindholm popping 25 and at least 60 points on the top line. But now we have to wonder how much Zacha @ 4.75 is going to produce not stapled to a 100+ point scorer.

Shouldn't someone in the media have asked if its muscular or a disc related injury? Be good to know.

The excuse was he missed camp because his wife was having a baby, then it was his wrist, now it is his back, there are more excuses put out there for this guy, how this won he did not play well, and his contract was an overpayment. He had all these injuries this year, only to multiply as he ages, something to look forward to.
