Player Discussion Elias Lindholm

I think he will be significantly better next year. I think his shot was lacking pop from a previous injury in the first half of the season. His shot looks better now to me.

I wouldn’t buy him out yet. Might as well see how he does the next couple of season. Worst case he is an over paid third line centre. Cap going up. It’s all good.

Yes, he has to be better offensively for sure. What if he isn't though? If he is your 50 point guy at that salary, what's the play? I think a buyout is just too much with his term and years remaining. I'd rather overpay him as a third liner (if the cap continues to rise, he won't be ridiculously overpaid) than have dead money on the cap for the next decade+. Maybe in before year 3 you can move him to a team needing to hit the cap floor or something.
50, that’s harsh. If he’s a killer two way center and neutralizes the other top line, maybe i can forgive 50 points.

He just needs to be better in all areas of his game.

Sweeney play if its anything like his Backes and Belesky moves, will be to move a 1st round pick out with him to a team trying to hit the cap floor. As the cap ceiling rises so does the floor, so they'll be teams waiting for the Sweeney's of the world.

He's their best faceoff man and probably their best defensive center. Moving him to wing makes no sense.
Nothing would stop him from taking faceoffs as a winger, and he was a winger in the past. Bruins have Zacha, Geekie, Lindholm, Mittelstadt, Poitras, and Minten as centers that could all be on the team next season, and there aren't enough C spots available for all of them. Some of these players are either playing wing or are going to be moved.

The bruins have really no choice but to see if he rebounds next season. Trading him would require us giving up assets and retention. Buying him out so early just adds more dead money to the cap. Maybe he finds his game next season.

I am at a 20% chance he does rebound.

If the team was a contender, and some promising free agent was signing here maybe I’d consider buying him out if I had to.(cap reasons)

He wasn’t worth 7 mil but he isn’t hurting the team so I’d just keep him for now and hope for a bounce back year.

To be fair Backes and Beesky were unplayable when that happened. Lindholm while overpayed this year is very far from unplayable.. Now maybe in 5 years he will be, but the cap will be so much higher then

I wouldn't move him any way at that price. Bruins are just too bad. Im not a big Lindholm fan,Sure he's play able as a number 3 center. Pretty expensive cap hit though for your 3rd line center.

All true.

But if Lindholm is their best faceoff man and best defensive center, why move him to wing?

Geekie has pretty much played wing all year. Zacha has played as much wing as center in his time in Boston.
Mittelstadt doesn't seem to fit the bill at center. Minten's a complete question mark.

I'd be very surprised to see Lindholm at wing next season.

You are right, no way do you buy out that contract with 6 years remaining, hey I was against the signing, because of the contract, but let's be honest, I do not blame Lindholm, this is all on Sweeney, he bid against himself.
