I'm sorry but you're insane if you don't think Elias was signed to be the Bruins #1 C. Almost 8 mil per year for a 2 or 3 with a team full of 2 or 3 centers already? You honestly cannot believe he was signed to play behind Coyle or Zacha. You sound like you work for CNN covering up the ineptitude of the boss.

As someone mentioned, he was signed to be a hope to work well with Pasta...which would make him our #1C just by default but not a #1C by consideration of any other team in the NHL. Not a single one. Didn't work out with Pasta. Does that make him a bust? Some think yes and some think no. I think his salary is commensurate with a #2 that ages to a #3 and that's the secondary reason why Sweeney signed him....if the Pasta gamble failed we still have a good player that can fit in elsewhere and didn't really break the bank. I don't think you'll find a coach or GM in the league that will say EL isn't a good player. Down offensive year? sure. Injury? Maybe. Down defensive year? no.

Bergeron was still better than EL at 37 years old... basically on all aspect of the game.!
We have to conclude up to now... Boston did miss the target with EL!

I posted this in the roster thread, but the Bruins should try him at RW at this point. He has been the most active when he goes on the forecheck, and he has played that position in Carolina. He can still take faceoffs, but that's an avenue I think the Bruins should look into. Either that, or get someone on his line that can carry the play.

His second best offensive year was 2018-19 playing RW with Gaudreau & Monahan so I'd be down to play him there. Problem is I don't see the Bruins moving him off C until they absolutely have to.

I do not believe many hate the player on a personal basis, but more because of his contract. Now they are saying he was not signed as a #1 C, well for everyone's information he was and he failed. My thoughts and I have said it before Donnie panicked and felt he had to sign a # 1 C, even when the player he signed was not. I get the DeBrusk move, it was time, but to not replace him, was a disgrace, and they might have been better off strengthening, the wing position, and adding depth at the forward positions. Would that be ideal, of course not, but patience would have been the play until a solid #1 came along at center.

Unfortunately, that was 7 years ago and the Bruins, don't have a Monahan, or Gaudreau.

Elias Lindholm was signed to be the number 1 center on the Bruins. Currently he is a steaming pile of stinking dogshit and we are stuck with him for 6 more extremely long seasons. Hopefully Charlie Jacobs gets his head out of his ass and fires the 2 clowns that are leading us down the road to irrelevance

What the Bruins were hoping for is a complimentary chemistry centre with Pasta. Didn't happen. But EL can drop down lines and still be an effictive team mate. Throwing similar money at a centre like Trevor Zegras is a true gamble which can either boom if he gels with pasta or bust because he doesn't have much else to offer IMO.

That is why I would have preferred, building the forward positions around wings and just keep an eye on any centers that might come into play . I do agree with you on Zegras, I am not a fan, but he is younger and and contract is certainly better than the one the Bruins, gave Lindholm.

The second he signed, the large majority knew that 7 years was a huge gamble. He wasn't going to live up to it in the end. Generally think the idea was, he'd at least be a serviceable top 6 center for roughly 4 of those years.

Now he's had moments, but overall, the eye test doesn't check out. Looks like a lack of skill to produce much on his own. Not much when it comes to skating and puck handling. His best offensive skill seems to be when he's in the offensive zone and in the slot, pretty quick hands for getting shots off. Best attributes, he works hard, thinks defensively, and has a surprising amount of grit.

Saying this, as far as considering him a complete right off so soon, just can't do it yet. Wonder how much of this was being injured during training camp and not having the greatest off-season. It's also been a down year for nearly everyone, and the snowball effect seems to really have taken hold of this team.

He's the #1 guy expecting to have a strong off-season and come back more improved. Don't think he'll ever carry a line, but predict he'll be back with Pasta on the 1st line and be a productive center next year. Time will tell.
