Yeah, I know, but we are dealing with the reality here, not what should have been.
Yep, time to accept that he's not performing like a top6 center. He hasn't all season. So rather than have him drag down guys in the top6, let's put him in a role where he can actually help and be effective, AND lets see if someone else can be effective the top6.

He won't be the first or last player that's overpaid in the league. It is what it is, and he CAN be an effective contributor to team success. We'll just have a $7.75m player that should be making $5m and not be able to sign some 7th defenseman next season.

He's dragging down who exactly, Marchand who was benched yesterday (I'm thinking injury related) , Brazeau, Lettieri?

Yes, he's been dragging down Marchand, and I think he hurts the 1st power play. I'm not saying he's the only issue, but he is an issue.
I think Marchand is the only top six guy roughly keeping pace with his production from the last few years and that's even with his rushing back from injury. He's obviously grinding through something but it isn't Lindholm.

Are you suggesting EL is playing like a top center? Top 6?
Trying him on the third is the option right now.

I'm saying that unless you're playing with Pastrnak there's no difference between being "top six" and being just about anywhere else in the lineup.

But I'm all for switching things up and letting Poitras get some different chances and experience.

Coyle was overpaid for the same role and excelled in it, till the cap increases put his contract into the generally normal range for his skillset. We can hope the same here. I am also not done hoping he can get through this tough stretch and be a legit 2c going forward.
You have to question how well EL would be doing if the powerplay wasn't dogshit this year. Good chance he's closer to a 50-60 point pace with a decent PP, which is a alot easier to swallow.

On the other hand the argument could be made he's directly contributing to the PP being poor this year

He was brought in to make the PP, more effective, not working. No more excuses for this guy, and I am not blaming him, but the guy who brought him in..................has anyone seen our GM

You and I saw that pass to Marchand on the PP that killed it. He also took an unnecessary penalty and gagged with the puck on Ottawa's 4th goal. Next to Coyle
he was the worst player on Boston Saturday.

He has earned a short term demotion to 3C.

That's my point, and it extends to playing with Marchand at even strength. How many times a game do we see him not catch a pass, get surprised by a pass, make a bad pass, put it in someone's feet, shank a one-timer... it feels like it's 3, 4, 5 times a game.

It's a shame because I do see a lot of times when Marchand and Lindholm are in sync mentally on plays, it just seems like, 9 times out of 10, Lindholm fails to execute.

I think moving him down could be the best thing for him. All three guys defend well and it's not as fast paced (in terms of puck movement) as playing with Marchand or Pasta.

Just watched him blow a 2 on 1...mishandled the puck and skated himself into the corner instead of getting a pass or shot off. Brutal
