I highly recommend to you guys to watch this episode of Spittin Chicklet, it is pretty awesome at dissecting what the Panthers just accomplished, pretty much we broke another team, the Oilers, they will have over 50 million tied up on 4 players alone and they need a marquee goalie, their break down and accolades are through the roof, we are the standard now.

I think there is a lot of that, like internal pressure from the players themselves, I appeals to me as they are loosing a friend not a team mate, that has to carry some emotional weight.

Florida has the massive edge that it has to be by far the #1 for players wanting to go

The team is in it’s prime, zero anchors, all the other benefits. Zito can call and just say do you want to play here like nobody else can

The guess is Ehlers will get 8-9M from the market but I’d look at 7x7 type deal from Florida

Marchand ofcourse is awesome but he’s 38y next season and never had a payday yet. He’d have to be in the 5.5M range to keep the train running for multiple years

I would agree with this very much, we have become a destination for players that want to win now but there is a price of admission to this exclusive club, Marchand knows this and this could be a leverage, the next player to fill in if not Marchy, will consider himself very special, it is not far fetched to think that many elite players want to be here, in this moment. because we are super hot right now.

I’ll say Ekblad is the highest chance of being an anchor in 2-3 years, and I don’t just mean the obvious heaviness.

Marchand on a 4 year contract won’t be an anchor because he’ll be good for 2 or 3, they’ll win 2 Cups, and then figure out what to do with him.

Bennett fo 8 years won’t start growing mold until year 5-6 IMO.

I love the idea of Ehlers on The Panthers if we do end up going that route, and get a decent price. He is one of my fav players in the league, so I have been thinking about this before.

That’s the rational side but I’m now emotionally attached to Marchand who helped put away the Oilers and scored the 2OT winner with Drai on his tail. Priceless.

IF we were going to sign all three, it’d be in one bomb dropped all at once.

Benny probably is done.. he probably says I’ll sign for X if we sign these guys.. I’d guess he gets 7 if we sign them, probably 8 if not.

Ekblad wants to stay, it’s obvious. He’d get the same deal as Forsling.. 5.75. He’s not getting more here.. no chance.

Marchand.. I just get the feeling that this is where we get creative. I’d guess he’d sign with us 3 years for 5, maybe 6.. but I think the catch here is that we’re going to add years at a million a year to lower the AAV.. then just buyout at whatever point.. just adding less that 500k a year for, well, awhile. But with the cap up, I don’t think we’d care. So say its 6x6x6x1x1x1x1x1x1.. That’s 2.875

So we’d have the three of them at 15.625.

Is that what’s going to happen? No clue, and probably doubtful. But that’s the way it could potentially get done.

I do however think it’s going to end up being just Bennett signed at something like 8x8 and we let the others walk. But until it happens, who knows!
