Ekblad vs Bennett vs Marchand

In what order would you prioritize each of these players this offseason

I wouldn’t worry so much about Marchand not being a top level player for at least 2 more seasons. After those two more cups, who cares. Give the guy 4yrs at $6M.

No question on his physical ability I think, its more if it can fit within the cap structure. Probably only way to fit Bennett, Ekblad, and Marchand is if Marchand takes a one-year bonus 35+ deal.

I highly recommend to you guys to watch this episode of Spittin Chicklet, it is pretty awesome at dissecting what the Panthers just accomplished, pretty much we broke another team, the Oilers, they will have over 50 million tied up on 4 players alone and they need a marquee goalie, their break down and accolades are through the roof, we are the standard now.

Trying to sign Bouchard for 10 million or close to that is suicidal, they will never be able to compete at playoffs levels again, after they get a top goalie, they will have to fill the rest of the team with mid level performers, that is not what they need, we are going to have Zito consult with them to show them the ropes.
That is just awful management.

I saw Douchebomb for $11M and I must say I loved the idea. Next they should do McJ for $17M so they have the core locked up and the team is destined to never win shit.

Give this kind of contract to Marchand

Keep Benny and Ekblad on bonus laden deals

Profit

So apparently it would lower cap hit somewhat.... interesting approach. Pretty sure Zito would be all over that if that were the case. It does beg the question, how come this sort of strategy is not used more often, feel like it is wide open for exploitation if it were so cut and dry.

mainly because players don't want to be paid a bulk of the dollars over a 10 year period after the contract ends. inflation sucks and eats into those dollars.

what he said essentially

Time value of money is the argument here

100 bucks today isnt 100 bucks next year. It will be up to the player to accept that...plus the trickle in really

He could get paid 900K for 10 years...is he ok with that?

Pretty much the simplest explanation is you get a base salary. Say 5M for 4 years...so 20. Then the remainder, lets say 6M whatever, gets paid over 10 years.

Thats how the AAV goes from 6.5M (6.5X4) down to like 5.6M however that math works out

With all that money, McJ could buy and model another IKEA mansion.

I will do disgusting dirty things if all 3 stay. This on a deferred would be a start

Go for Ehlers instead and let Marchand walk

Probably same money
Before this year, Ehlar played 37 playoff games: 4+10=14 points, -9 with 40 hits.
Matthews and Marner are playoff machine compared to that guy.

I'm sure he'll have a great time in Carolina, but I don't see how he fits here. Then again, Maurice and Zito would know better.

It’s just tough to look at them outside of Florida

Everyone that goes to Florida has a career year and Ehlers is a good play driver

Ehlers- Lundell- Luostarinen would again be a monster 3rd line in the playoffs

Maurice knows him, so I'll be ecstatic if they bring him in. And tbf, 5 goals, 7 points in 8 games last playoffs, that's really good.

Whoever misses on Marner, will give Ehlers a massive contract they will regret IMO

I am not saying he is a bad player or fit, but I think if they gamble it will be on the player they know fits. Could be wrong. I expect Ehlers to get 10+ from someone.
Oilers.

McL-16
Crai 14
Bouchbum - 11
Ehlers - 10
Murse - 9.5

Goalie - James Reimer at 800K

BUT WHY ISNT OUR GOALIE GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!

Depending on how creative they can get, stretch it to 5 and front-load it for the AAV. I thought the rule was no more than a 35% drop year over year and no more than 50% top to bottom.

Y1: $6
Y2: $4
Y3: $3
Y$: $3
Y5: $3

Age 43 is not far-fetched, and that makes the AAV = $19/5 = $ 3.8M. In a rising cap world, that makes more sense on a 35+ contract than 3x6 = $18M

Again, I still think it's a bridge too far and depends on what Benny and Ek ask for, but it's doable. Might still cost us Erod.

Florida has the massive edge that it has to be by far the #1 for players wanting to go

The team is in it’s prime, zero anchors, all the other benefits. Zito can call and just say do you want to play here like nobody else can

The guess is Ehlers will get 8-9M from the market but I’d look at 7x7 type deal from Florida

Marchand ofcourse is awesome but he’s 38y next season and never had a payday yet. He’d have to be in the 5.5M range to keep the train running for multiple years

Do 4x$6 Marchy and be done with it already and do 8x$7.5 Benny and be done with it already and then tell Ek sorry we only have what we have, you want it?

If there’s away I’d trade Rod to create some space. They have his replacement for cheaper in the building and would allow Zito to create even deeper blueline vs the start of last season
