This guy is going to be scary good. Been saying it for years, the next Shea Weber.

I will ALWAYS have a soft spot for Smitty in my heart after that clutch win over Vancouver thus sealing Ekblad to FLA. I was on EGGshells watching that game and hoping for the best.

Yep. If talent pool today is five times stronger than in the 60s, that still would mean the Original 6 was just as elite a talent pool as today's NHL. And in a league with a similar scoring rate to today (a tad higher but not the NHL of the 80s) Orr got 41 points in 66 games as a teenager. Despite 102 PIM. Despite playing on the league's worst team (by far too as their 44 pts trailed 5th place Detroit by 14). He didn't turn 19 until the final 3 weeks of the reg. season. Ekblad isn't quite matching that but my goodness he's coming close. What a stud. Luke Schenn and Tyler Myers also looked like future HOF'ers at 18 but not to the level Ekblad is. He has room to grow, that's the scary part!

A. You cant compare them. Differing era's, differing circumstances.
B. NO, he's not close to Orr. He's not anywhere near as flashy and unpredictable.

He's having a very good rookie season, has a ton of potential and is living up to his draft spot. That's about it.
