Ekblad hit on Hagel - suspended 2 games

a suspension is still a suspension, He just returned from one, he should have known to not to play like a Neanderthal.

Like the guys already said, the NHL treats PED violations separately from on-ice infractions when determining a player's "repeat offender" status. So no, his PED suspension has nothing to do with this incident.

And again, your 'roid rage argument is hilarious.

well, he still got 2 games regardless.

Well, I guess they all should know better, right?
I only replied because you said this, “Expecting anything less than a repeat offender status multiplier on his suspension is stupid.”.
it was, he just returned from a suspension. Thinking he was getting no suspension or just 1 game was silly.

The league will punish based on the result of the hit. Since Hagel left game 4 and will not play game 5, they are sitting Ekblad for those 2 games Hagel missed.

Barkov left game 2 after the Hagel hit, so Hagel sits 1 game.

I got no explanation for the Drai elbow on Barkov though. IIRC Barkov had to leave the game so there should have been at least a 1 game suspension.
Don’t miss the most important part that Hagel’s hit wasn’t to Barkov’s head - no head injury.

Ekblad’s hit was to Hagel’s head - head injury and concussion. And Hagel’s likely to be out for awhile even if Tampa wins next 3 in a row -I’d be surprised if he got cleared to play in Round 2.

There’s a reason sports leagues are supposed to be cracking down on concussions/hits to the head.

As for last year, yes, Draisaltl should have been suspended for that since it made contact to the head.

That miss a year ago (and I don’t know if Barkov sustained a concussion and missed significant time - didn’t watch any of it) doesn’t make this hit in Game 4 acceptable.

Those are the ones that are surprising to me and should be corrected. 2 playoff games feels more accurate here.

In my opinion I find basing it off of injury is wrong but I think many would agree on it your self included.

NHL won't give consistency but that's what I would want.

I hope both teams lose but one will move on and beat Toronto or Ottawa (I don't see it but it is Toronto)

They watched how other Championship teams built their rosters and did the same thing with their current roster.
The developed talent in their own system that they were able to either welcome into their own NHL roster or use to trade for the pieces they needed (read familiar Tampa Bay fans?)
Sounds like every single NHL team ever. Some home grown talent just develops, or is developed, better than others (looking at you, NYR).

And we will see a "worse hi" with nothing tonight just like every night, totally inconsistent officiating as per usual.
absoulutely. The reffing is awful. No question about it. Its why making comparasions between hits in different games, different years, or even the same damn game is impossible. Theres no baseline but an imaginary line drawn in imaginary sand in some dreamscape being dreamt by the DOPS.

No, it doesn’t make this hit acceptable, I don’t believe anyone here thinks it does.
It does put a dent in the league always calls everything the Panthers way narrative, though.

If true, that’s very weird. Both show a disregard for the rules, and I think it’s fair to punish someone with prior violations with a harsher fist.

Because he forcefully hit a player who was never eligible to be hit.
That’s the first and biggest reason.

People can argue for a another week about, “Well, he almost touched it...”, if they choose.

Ok then why wasn’t Tkachuk suspended?

lol both were hits to the chest. One guy took the hit like a champ and the other like a puss. That's literally the only difference.
Well, one of the hits happened at a lot higher speed, and was a more violent collision.
It’s your inability to comprehend such differences that’s holding you back here.
