No Matt Tomkins, one of the best goalies in SHL. Some random guy from Czech league is better? Sure.

Gormley, who was awful in SHL instead of Gelinas and Stefan Elliot....

Max Véronneau is dominating in SHL but they decide to go with Ben Street...makes senses.

My only thought is that maybe the players you listed (and in general a team based in SHL, NLA, DEL) will be going to the spengler cup

HC rarely chooses SHL or Liiga players for that matter, so i doubt it. Its gonna be a team filled with NLA players.

I agree with you, but it may be different this year. They're using these tournaments as evaluations in the event the NHL pulls out of the Olympics. I can see them taking a different approach for the Spengler this time.

While I love my Czech players, I have a lot less love for the people that run Czech hockey.

One of, my man, peeves is their insistence that Milan Gulas is somehow capable of playing best on best hockey or even that he would be good enough to tilt a World Championships game our way. I just don't see it.

So, for the 100th time, I will type this:

'Milan Gulas cannot make the games for the national team... '

This time due to Covid. It sounds like he practiced with the team before finding out... something to keep an eye on.

Why are you convinced every player wants to take part in such a nothing tournament? It's not about who HC wants, it's about who makes themselves available.

If the speculation is correct and this is HC's backup Olympic roster, I would think nearly all players would accept if offered.
It's also very obvious that this roster had a clear KHL focus, that isn't just players saying no

And most of them KHL players are legitimately good. Question marks are guys like Bow or Gormley that definitely weren't picked on merit. So the only explanation why are they there is that they were easy to get.

Czechs tie it up with 10 seconds left.. Gulas to a Finn who went top shelf on his goalie.

OT coming up!

My gut says that Pesan is watching Krejci, Gulas and Kovar together and thinking 'that's it, that's my first line at the best on best Olympics'. The EHT tends to hurt our team more than help it becuase our coaches see a good performance and feel it'll translate to a World Championship or, even worse, a best on best tourney.

Fake Slapper in a shootout.. not every day! Finn's up 1-0

Krejci went in slower than molasses.. stopped by Satteri

Hyka and Finn got stopped... Saterri looks good

Nice Hrubec stop

Gulas, of course, stoppped

Kovar.. stopped.. Finn was stopped too.. Finns have yet to deke

Another Finn shot... stopped

Sedlak also stopped by Satteri who looked awesome

Congrats to Finland

Why is Russia playing 4 games in this tourmament? Everyone else play 3 games.
Because they played an extra game against Canada. Looks like it was impossible to arrange all teams playing against Canada because of days. And it is the Russian stage of the EHT.

But Finland play vs Canada too. 4:1 today!

Yes, all teams play three games, only Russia plays 4 games (extra game vs Canada). So, with Canada playing, they needed to reschedule the tournament, so for example Czechs did not play against Canada, while Sweden played against Canada but missing a game vs Finland. For obvious reasons they could not make a schedule when all playing against all.
