Player Discussion: Ehlers

The ifs were there you just chose to ignore them.

There are a lot of ifs with everyone this offseason. If Dallas moves Robertson and Marchment, if they sign Granlund, if Colorado stands pat or decides to move Coyle and add, if Kaprizov stays healthy, if St. Louis can bring last seasons play into the start of next season, if Utah and Nashville decide to spend and fill their holes adequately, if Chicago finds Bedard some help. If the Jets sign Ehlers, if they sign Toews, if they find replacements for 2C/2W, if they move on from Apples, if they replace him adequately, if some of the young guns come in and are solid enough to warrant being in the lineup.

The ifs are there for everyone. We are no different and we have some big ifs.
what if's did I ignore?

If Ehlers is gone, I'd be going after JJ Peterka.
He's a hell of a good goal scorer that needs to work on his D game but is young at 23.
He has scored 32, 50 and 68 points since making the NHL.
You'd have to give back players.
Nino, Schenn and a Barlow might do it...I'd add a 3rd.

The rumoured starting point from the Rangers is NYR 2026 1st, NYR 2026 3rd, Brennan Othmann + a B/C prospect.

I'd assume the Sabres would want a more NHL readyish prospect as the centerpiece. They'd likely be looking at Lambert or Chibrikov as the main pieces, likely need to add a 1st, 3rd and probably another B/C tier prospect like Freij/Nehring/He something along those lines.

I'm at a loss at what if's I ignored...

you said seattle/nashville missed despite getting good goaltending, I didn't ignore it, just didn't agree because we are far better then either of those teams...

you mentioned rangers missing the playoffs despite winning the presidents trophy,I didn't ignore that and pointed out that it has only happened 4 times in the past 40 years and the fact that the rangers were a much different team then the jets

ehlers leaving? didn't ignore that, said it would be a loss and even tried to provide a solution on how we can mitigate the loss....

you talked about every other team getting better and the jets getting worse, I think that's very unlikely and there is massive gaps for some of these teams to make up...

anything else?

sorry, just don't agree with the reasons you provided on why we won't make the playoffs next year, we have helle, we have structure, we have majority of our players signed and under control and a crap ton of cap space..

I talked about how some teams COULD get better and we COULD get worse. Key word is COULD. Should I also underline and bold it for you to get it through your head?
You think everything I say is a foregone conclusion for some reason and it's getting really annoying.

and I'm not allowed saying why those situations are unlikely? do you think those situations are likely?

You absolutely are, that is how you have a discussion.

But that isn't what you have been doing you just keep putting words in my mouth about how I think this and that will 100% happen and making snarky remarks at every opportunity. Shutting down every and all discussion by saying I'm doom and gloom for even suggesting that the Jets could take a step back next year if certain things aren't addressed. And how other teams could take steps forward if they address some of their issues. All of it is pure speculation, I don't think anything is likely or unlikely at this point. I'm just looking at all the scenarios and how they could play out. My expectations are not to expect anything. I'd much rather be surprised than dissapointed.

you provided reasons why it could happen, me and others gave reasons why it's unlikely but you kept on arguing for the reasons why it could happen, that is why I am under the impression that you actually think those reasons will happen...

What I was arguing against was you saying I think it will happen. I'm just speculating on what could happen. Always have been right from the beginning and many people have pointed that out to you but you also ignored them.

I started saying you think it will happen after you kept arguing every point that was made...

anyways w/e this should have been ended days ago

marchement? geekie? zacha? tuch? rust? rossi? as potential trade targets who knows what else is out there

grandlund, donato, suter, magipange smith, drouin on the free agent side
Geekie/Tuch/Zacha would be all great gets, IMO.

I said it many times it all depends on how the offseason goes. It's going to be interesting to see how a lot of teams handle things. Ehlers is a big loss though if he goes. It changes a lot of things about the team and I'm not confident we find an adequate replacement by next year. Lowry is also a sizable loss to start the year. Signing Toews would provide some optimism but we also can't expect to much yet. Have to see how he looks in TC. I really don't like the looks of Iafallo-Names-Perfetti as our 2nd line right now. If we don't land Toews our 3rd line is likely something along the lines of Nieds-Barron-JAD, maybe Gus in there somewhere. Or one of the prospects steps in but I don't expect them to hit the ground running.
What on earth are you talking about. Way to divert the actual discussion. Hilarious you accuse others of putting words in your mouth, when you can't even follow the discussion and posts.

How is it doom and gloom to suggest we could have a bad season? All it takes is one injury and we could be out. Never count your chickens before they hatch.

- suggest bunch of teams get better
- suggest Jets get worse
- suggest Jets have injury risk, one injury could have them out
- as a result - Jets miss playoffs, Utah overtakes them

-gets called out on gloom and doom, negative POV
-"HoW iS It dOoM aNd Gloom"

Don't bother responding if it's not about how the above is not a gloom and doom/negative scenario for the Jets.

I'd be happy to offer Chibrikov + He + 1st + 3rd. Specifically because we're paying with smaller LWs to get a higher caliber smallish LW. I'd probably not do it if it was Lambert instead of Chibrikov, because we lack right shot wingers and C's (not sure which Lambert will be).

Anyways, my offer doesn't seem painful enough to be a winning bid.

I don't understand why you guys are so hung up on Dax being "Doom and Gloom". I went back and read the interaction from the start to make sure I'm not going crazy, and it was just well reasoned discussion about the outlook for our divisional rivals next year that I enjoyed reading. He prefaced many times that he doesn't think we'll actually miss the playoffs.

I don't think you can argue I'm a doom and gloomer even though I agree with Dax - the poll got removed but you can see from this thread I was one of 4 people on the entire board that predicted we would end up with >108 points last season.

For what it's worth I see us stepping back from that total this year as well (Aging, Lowry out, Ehlers gone, young guys figuring it out, divisional rivals improving, and conserving energy like oilers/Florida did are all factors in my opinion).

Wow is this true or more guesses from Elliott?

Necas is still signed for next year too so the Jets do gain a year out of it worst case. If they cannot convince him it'd be similar to the PLD string of transactions, instead of losing a similarly producing player for nothing (if Ehlers moves on).
