Ehlers, why didn't we trade him...

Just really hoping he's healthy, Nik hasn't been healthy for a post season in a long time. We need him at 100.

If you look at the other free agent wingers available in the summer, and then factor in the cap increasing by 24 million over the next 3 years, Nik will receive an AAV over $9 million easily. Supply and demand.

Hopefully the Jets are able to sign him because we have no one in house who will replace his production and we have never signed a legit top-6 forward in the 14 year history of the club as a free agent from another team - Perreault was a middle-six forward and Jokinen was a declining player who was mostly awful with the Jets. No reason to believe that would change this off-season.

We really can’t afford to lose Ehlers, as without him, we really have no second line. He’s averaging over a point per game this year, and really is an 80 point player, with # 1 powerplay time. All we’d be left with is Names, and Perfetti, and that’s not near good enough. Ehlers drives that line.

I think the Jets should “pay” Nik, and if that means going $ 9 to $ 9.5 mil per year, you do it. The cap is rising and he’s worth that.

He’s a great team player, never complains, and one of the fastest skaters in the NHL.

This is a hugely important signing, that the Jets should throw money at, to make this signing happen. If we don’t, we’ll see a serious decline in this club.
