Ehlers why Didnt We Trade Him

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Chevy has generally done a great job in Winnipeg, but simultaneously, imagine what Winnipeg would be like if Chevy started doing more Tulsky-like tactics. Maybe the way for Winnipeg to improve their reputation as a franchise would be if he was more aggressive. The Jets are going to have an insane amount of cap space this offseason. Maybe they should pay Ehlers the proper amount to keep him. Alternatively, maybe the Jets should take a gamble on their own version of the Rantanen trade and have their own version of a pivot if the guy doesn't want to sign.

Trotz tried some "Tulsky-like tactics".

Jets are 1st place in the league. Maybe it's Tulsky who should be trying some Chey-like tactics instead of shitting all over himself over Rantanen.

Foolish thread.. why didn't we trade him cuz he's huge piece of our team and our success... maybe logic would tell you management knows more about his situation than u do and thier pretty confident he coming back. .. we have significant cap space and no problem matching what others offer on top of that he's been loyal member of organization since day 1

What are they going to get for Ehlers after the season is over? A third round draft pick for his negotiating rights?

Trotz spent like a drunken sailor on bad UFA fits without a legitimate center to feed them anything. The Canes swung hard at a guy who legitimately could be considered a top-10 player. Comparing the Preds to the Canes is apples and oranges.

Tulsky's been in the Carolina GM job for less than a year, so I'm not sure if he has an imitable style yet. Rantanen is his only big swing so far, and he quickly realized it wasn't working out, and he tried to fix it by shipping Rantanen to Dallas for Stankoven and picks.

Tulsky did trade down in the draft last year - sending Carolina's 1st (27th overall) to Chicago for two 2nd rounders (34th and 50th overall). Now that's a total math/stats guy move.

But if you mean take big swings, then Chevy's done that in the past. Last year with Monahan, and before that with Hayes and Stastny.

Now, I'm not so sure at all that Chevy would move as quickly to identify and try to fix a mistake as Tulsky did. TNSE's organizational DNA seems to include an overabundance of patience and loyalty (so maybe it's just not in the corporate DNA to take that much risk as Carolina did with Rantanen in the first place).

I think, just like Winnipeg not being a favored destination for many players, the corporate patience and loyalty is a double edged sword. Having a stable core of guys - so much so that Tanev's been gone for 6 years but still played with 8 of the guys on the current roster - has some team cohesion benefits...but also some drawbacks if you hang onto those guys for too long. Nobody turns over their roster slower than the Jets.

Stfu already about Desired destination nonsense.. pieces that left here weren't good fits and Cancers in the locker room... we have most are roster on favorable contracts and had no problems getting guys to waive in the past... Chevy just doesn't fold and over pay like almost every other team.. u guys seem to think because we didn't land any major center in trades deadline it was because of your foolish delusions.. Chevy only had 2 guys in mind if that and other teams folded and over paid

literally just had 3+ players not waive to come here at the deadline...

What if the team does well in the playoffs, say a Finals berth but do not win the whole thing; however, Ehlers has a poor playoff points wise, do you sign him?

No.

Must be nice to look at the Preds off season moves in hindsight. In the moment there sure were a lot of people calling the Preds the off season champions. The Canes aquiring Rantenen is even worse. They only wanted Rantenen if he would sign long term. They swung blindly at guy who didn't want to be there resulting in downgrading their team. Jets or anyone could do that.

Both teams went for big moves and fell on their face. I'll take Chevy's first place team. If a player would prefer a playing for GMs who prefer headlines to proper team building and getting players that dont fit rather than a first place team, that's on them.

I find it hard to blame the Canes, they were told Rantanen would be interested by his agent and it wasn't true.
