I don't spend a lot of time looking at player stats, especially plus-minus. But, I do find a few stat that are interesting compared to the rest of the team.

Plus/minus: Edvinsson is at +15, while the next closest player is Copp at +4. Only four players are in the positive at this point.

Power play points: Edvinsson 0. I know he was not on the power play much this year, but zero was a little surprising. Half of Seider's goals and more than half of his assists come from the power play.

Defensive zone starts: 57.5% (Seider 50.7)

CF% 46.0 ( Seider 50.7)

I expect his impact on the game will continue to improve when he gets ASP as his Right defenseman.

At 5on5, he had 53% GF That’s good for 46th in the league (Seider was right behind him at 49th). Pretty solid for what I would consider his rookie year. His xGF% is less impressive, at 49.7% (80th in the league).

Stats or not. I think he has looked good this season.

Happy to have him as a foundational piece on the blue line moving forward.
I am with you. I question whether he will be as good as Seider, but I am super pleased with him and think he is a foundational piece of this team.

Fascinating is when you look at ES points he is around 17th league wide. (I chat GPT'd this so I'm sure there are some accuracy issues), but he is the only guy in his range that had 0 PP points. Other guys in that range all have 20ish PP points. (ES, PP, Total Points). With real PP time it is likely he puts up closer to 50 points this season. Not Huston numbers but he'd likely be in Calder contention if he was eligible.

I think building more muscle and strength will be a big plus for him this year, he noticeably was hobbled at times from lingering injuries. But I loved how he was willing to fight, his physicality got more impressive as the season went on and he was willing to protect our players. You don’t necessarily want edvinsson doing that, but it’s good to know he’s willing to.

He appeared physically stronger in the beginning of the season. Like many rookies, I would bet he lost significant weight during the year. That is one of the biggest challenges all players, especially rookies, face. I think Raymond lost 20 lbs by the end of his first year.

I looked it up, and he is 31st among all defensemen in 5-on-5 points (source: NHL Player Statistics -Advanced Stats 2024-2025). Seider is our next defenseman at 75th.

Edvinsson has only played 30 minutes on the PP all season. And almost all of that time was spent with the dumpy second unit that features studs like Compher, Tank, and Ras. If my numbers are correct, that unit scored something like 13 PP goals all season from the forwards. By comparison, Larkin scored 13 PPG himself.

And if you look at Mo’s numbers, he picked up a PP point about once every 10 PP minutes. So in Ed’s time, he’d have about 3 PPP playing with the top unit. That rate would be lower were Mo playing with the 2nd unit all year. So if you go by Mo’s standards, the most Ed should’ve picked up is <3 PPP given his ice time and weaker linemates. 1-2 points is basically the difference between having a little puck luck and not. It’s so negligible. Then also factor in that those 30 min on the PP were the first 30 PP minutes of his NHL career.

In short, Ed not picking up any PPP doesn’t really tell us anything about his PP or offensive ability. 31 ESP tells us plenty.

The grind of an 82 game NHL season along with the metabolism of an athlete in their early 20s can be tough to overcome. I was bodybuilding and powerlifting competitively along with working a labor intensive job until I was 25 and for years I had to eat over 4000 calories a day just to maintain weight. Now that im in my 30s, its a struggle to keep the weight off

Years ago I would work with a few somewhat local ECHL/AHL guys on their summertime programming in the gym and their goal was always to gain as much "functional" muscle as possible over summer. The challenge with that was beer at the golf course every other day isn't exactly an optimal muscle builder.

Arnold would seem to disagree, although that is a small glass of beer...I'm assuming that's a fancy DIPA.

ChatGPT did some weird stuff.

Ed is 25th overall in ES points by dmen in the league. There are a few guys with low PP points around him but Gavrikov at 28 is the next with zero. He is 55th overall in dman points.

He is putting up low end top pair numbers in what is basically his rookie season without any PP time. As someone mentioned above until Gus went down he wasn't even getting 2nd PP minutes and overall our 2nd PP doesn't get a ton of time because our 1st unit is so effective.

I agree with those above that he needs to get stronger, especially upper body. He gets out strengthed in stick on stick contact a lot, which is wild for how large he is. Hopefully a solid summer in the gym will allow him to really dial in next year.

I think Ed will end up as a really solid partner for either Seider or ASP. He plays more of a standard defensive passing game which covers well for guys that like to skate the puck. He will definitely be 1st pairing in the near future whether that is with Seider or ASP. I lean him being on a pair with ASP just because his size will help ASP more than Seider, much like it currently helps Aljo.
