You're obviously not familiar with this org. They paid Arvidsson 8M guaranteed, NMC straight off two back surgeries.

They obtained injured Connor Brown on blanket statement from Brown himself that he would be good to go. 1.5yrs later he's still f***ing useless. They also obtained Stecher last year who was injured and couldn't even go. They paid Jack Campbell 5M times years to do his best Robin Lehner impression. These are just recents. Historically the Oilers have lacked due diligence.

Post deadline, there is no roster size limit, just the cap. So long as Kane stays on LTIR, they can expand the roster and not have any issue.

Hopefully that means we see a switch where the Oil go from a low energy, bare bones roster 21man roster approach, to if you're not playing hard, then you're not playing, as someone else is going to be happy to take your spot.

A physical winger whose 12.8 hits per hour at five-on-five are far and away more than any other Oilers forward, top end speed isn’t a strong suit for Frederic, but he does have speed bursts ranking in the 60th percentile. He’s driven play offensively at a six percent rate above league average and defence at a two percent rate below league, according to HockeyViz, who pegs his impacts at that of a second-line forward.

The Bruins have had poor on-ice results this year with Frederic on the ice, controlling 47.9 percent of the shot attempt share, 50.2 percent of the scoring chance share and 50.3 percent of the expected goal share, but just 40.4 percent of the actual goal share, outscored 28-19. Part of the issue sinking Frederic’s results is a low on-ice shooting percentage of just 6.4 percent.

Frederic is having the season where he can be a world beater for a week stretch then can disappear for several weeks. He's very much a middle 6 power forward. Mainly gets most of his goals around the net.

When he's on, he plays very physical and he excels in puck retrieval deep in the opposing zone. He really excels when he has a creative linemate that can create offense for him. He's not going to dangle through anyone. His best portion of his Bruins career was when he was on a line with Taylor Hall and Charlie Coyle. Hall and Coyle would mainly drive the offense and Frederic would clean up a lot of their offense. Frederic also has a very under rated shot and can sometimes have a knack for finding open ice in the offensive zone.

When he's not on, I'm not going to lie.. He will drive you crazy. Maybe a bit drastic, but he played with the Milan Lucic trends of playing tough for a game or two, then you really only notice him except for a hit or two the next couple weeks. Maybe the occasional fight. The past couple of playoffs, Florida really beat him down and he disappeared when the Bruins really needed him to drive physicality.

Personally, I think if he can play with a skilled center on your team.. He will do very well. If he's expected to drive a line in your bottom 6, he will be in St. Louis next October. He may be there anyway.

You're missing the blind optimism usually found around here any time theres a trade. Its been a recurring injury as well for Frederik this season so not sure if he even plays. For sure theres no certainty one way or the other. Just people picking best possible synopsis by default.

I like the player and think he’s the type we need so my initial reaction was positive. However, I haven’t followed the Bruins much this year and didn’t know he’s been injured. Seeing the Johnston tweet was concerning. Even the Shannon tweet above, which is more positive, suggests he’s a minimum of two weeks away. We’re running out of season here and we need help now. He doesn’t seem to be it.

No matter what the next few days bring--I hope that the trio of Savoie, O'Reilly and Akey will remain with the Oilers so there is some regard to younger, (possible star) players stepping into the lineup over the next few seasons. Especially with such an older group of players in their twilight years.

or as part of a grind line with big guys (say Draisaitl and Kane)

Or for a Bruins version, is he a better fit rounding out a line of Marchant and Lindholm, or Coyle and Zacha?

Not saying he'll be on those lines, but which fits his style better?

There's the obvious outliers in the Tkachuks, for instance, but even now they're having health problems because the style they play is just really hard to do for long stretches IMO. There's just levels to this and he's just a typical middle 6 power forward. If he turns into Zach Hyman it'll be nothing short of a miracle.

I think ideal line mates for him are bigger skilled guys that can make creative plays for him in the offensive zone. I wouldn't view Frederic as a player to "protect" smaller, less physical players.

He just plays a very simple, straight line game. If I had to pick between your two examples I would probably say he's best suited to play with Draisaitl and Kane.

Not regular season help at all, no, the view is the team probably just getting him for playoffs and maybe a few games skating to get him some toi last games of season.

Thing is Frederic probably isn't available if he wasn't injured presently or if Bruins aren't dead in the water this season. Previous couple seasons Frederic looked like an energizer bunny that could score some.

My concern is why the club so often targeting injured players and how long before he can be helpful, as well as if this is just a rental.

I was surprised how quickly Frederic fell out of favor in Boston. He went from liked player to completely disliked in short period of time. When Oilers played boston the fans were jeering him it seemed.

Nice rundown. Thanks for it. The one other is that if the overall team is lacking in toughness it can be harder for only one or a few to be doing it. That might have been a factor too as the Bruins roster has been less complete.

Another thing is with todays hard epoxy equipment injuries incur and add up a lot more for physical players. You can hammer nails with todays equipment. No give to it. Studies that relate present equipment to increased CTE and such. Getting elbowed for instance is much worse now.

Strange though that a physical player wouldn't elevate in playoffs.
